New Grower curing with boveda packs

Sure, I have bud over 3 years old that is still moist, tasty and potent due to the Boveda packs.

Excellent. :) That's what I'd have thought. What humidity % packs do you use for long-term storage?

I'm a cigar smoker, so I'm familiar with Boveda packs for keeping cigars. Makes sense to use them for the curing process for nugs.

Now, my question is: would the packs help at all with keeping weed in general? Or are they only good for curing?

I have LOTS of Boveda packs I keep anything smokeable with.
It helps maintain the product at nice smokeable rh without introducing anything that might contribute to mold.
And they are priced right when bought in bulk.

I use 62% where I am on the warm humid coast.

Hey AB, do you still burp your jars occasionally?

Once they've been cured a few months I mostly leave them alone. I end up going into them once or twice a year but no burping schedule or anything like that. Another trick for long term preservation is to throw in some oxygen absorber packs.

I'll take AB's word for it. He's much more an expert than I am. But burping seems like a decent practice, one way or the other. Especially if your jars have an airtight seal. You want to minimize oxygen exposure, but at the same time, you don't want conditions in the jar to become completely anaerobic. That's a good way for certain bacteria to attack the buds. Some particularly nasty bacteria species enjoy anaerobic environments, including Clostridium botulinum.

Cigar humidors are not 100% airtight, for example. (Though they're pretty tight, and it's recommended to burp them at least once a month. You'll be doing plenty of "burping," though, if you're constantly reaching in for a smoke!).

Ha ha, I'm on my first proper indoor grow.

It's going to take a while to get some 3 year old jars :toke toking:

Yeah they put lots of supposed research into developing the 62% packs, allegedly with lots of users and dispensaries. I cure with them, although I am still working out exactly when to add them. Added too early, like right at jarring, doesn't seem best, as it slows and delayes the initial drying to where I can't quite handle it really well. But added right after the initial burping, say 5 or 7 days or so, all depending on a million things, and before the actual sealed "cure" seems to be about the right time to add them. Still working on this though.

Definitely, if nothing else, I think everyone should have some for basic bud storage :)

Agreed, Anthropolis. Every connoisseur should give them a try. As someone who has been partaking for over 25 years, I'd say they're right up there with vaporizers as the biggest game changers in cannabis. To have something so simple that can add or take away moisture as needed for years on end is pretty damn amazing. Different people use them in different ways, but everybody can use them. Especially as you grow more of your own and have more supply to keep in storage. :smoke:
