Indoor Current grow with NYCD; RRF; HBD

Thought I would try to contribute to this forum. A friend of mine is doing the growing and I am just gonna post the pics and keep up the journal... he's not too big on computers.

He finished an NYCD grow from a friends seeds and should be a pic of both plants that were grown. 1 was let go the other was FIM'd very late in veg. The FIM job was an accident do to improper handling. It produced a pretty interesting top. 2 mains buds with a few smaller growing in the middle. The pics have a hard time showing them.

Total harvested was about an oz a plant. The FIM'd didn't quite hit an oz but produced the best buds. This grow had several days with temps in the 100's so we were very pleased with the yield.

He has a new grow now. 2 NYCD's a Russian Rocket Fuel, and 2 Himalayan Blue Diesels and some photos.

The medium is Coco with Gro Dan grow cubes. 1 HBD has what I just mentioned plus 25% bio-char. We are testing a new product out of Idaho. A few guys in Cali have used it with great results outdoors and now we are gonna see what it will do indoors.

We are testing a few things here. We started 12 NYCD's and gave 6 Botanicare nutes and 6 Roots nutes. In 3 weeks you could really tell a difference. The Botanicare out grew the Roots quite a bit... to the point where we threw the roots plants out. We should have let them until we could sex them but we needed the space.

During the first grow we used roots soil, roots soiless, and some coco I had from 3 years ago that I don't remember the name but it came in a bright green bag from HTGS. The 3 year old coco out performed all the roots stuff.

We are now using Roots coco fiber (in the brick form). We are liking 50% grow cubes, 25% coco, and 25% bio-char. We are really hopeful about the bio-char but will know for sure in about 2 months.

Feeding has been a bit different too. We have been feeding about every 4th or 5th day with no run off. The first few weeks we would just water around the plant itself and let the rest of the 3 gal container stay dry. Now that the roots systems are reaching out we are watering the entire container... with no run off. Started out with 1/6 gallon per plant and now we are up to a 1/4 a plant.

Of the 2 NYCD's we have left we topped 1 and FIM'd the other. I have pics of those too. The fim's plant isn't growing tall yet but is filling out. The topped plant is gonna be interesting. Because that one was growing so well I decided to FIM one of it's lower flowers right has it was forming. It will be interesting to see what happens with it.

The NYCD's were planted on the 23rd-25th of August and the RRF and HBD's were planted on the 17th of September.

The room is a 48" x 24" Jardin. The lights are A51's (Area 51) 1 is a 115w 2x2 and the other is a 235w 2x4. I was told that anything over 50 watts per sqft is a waste... we will see. I am impressed with the lights so far. The first grow was with a BC Northern Lights Producer (2 430 HPS).

This is a pic of the start of the 12 NYCD's. 6 on the right were roots and the left was Boatnicare. I didn't get any pics three weeks in that really showed the difference. I didn't think we would start a journal.

These are pics of the two NYCD's that were topped and fim'd. This was about 2 weeks ago and I will post updated pics next. The growth has been pretty good. I am sure different autos react to topping differently but these gals seemed to enjoy it. These were seeds from a friend that has been trying to breed but originated from Lowryder. At least that what he said.

This is the set up of the closet that we were using but have now moved to a tent. I like the light set up because I can adjust them where they are needed. The 235 can take care of the older gals while the 115 can help out the seedlings and young'ns.

The Photos took off like crazy. The strain is The Doctor from Greenhouse and grows like crazy. There is also a Galaxy in there and I have never seen anything like it. The Galaxy is the fastest growing plant we have ever had.

Everything is coming along very nice. The 2 young Russian Rocket Fuels and 1 Himalayan Blue Diesel are doing great. It's been 5 days since anyting has been watered. The 2 NYCD's are doing great. I wish I didn't toss the root's experiment plants out cause 4 out of the 6 Botanicare's turned out to be males. I was never in love with this strain anyway and am glad to be finished with it.

As you can see some Perlite in the mix too. As far as percentages go it's kind of tough cause I just tend to throw stuff together and eye it. I really really like the Grodan grow cubes and will be using more of that product. I will also keep using the Bio-Char. I like the rich black color it adds. The Perlite was stuff I have had for years and need to use. But for the price it's hard to stop using. There is also Hydroton floating around. There is a good base of Hydroton at the bottom but I am re-using old coco and never sifted them all the way out so they are all over the mix.

We are using a few different Myco products. The RRF has Great White. The Bio-Char HBD has Zho. The Coco HBD has Greengrow. A tablespoon of each product was poured in each hole (2 per plant) about 2" deep for each plant.

The 2 NYCD's have Roots Orgeonism that was applied the same way.

The 2nd pic is the one we fim'd and it actually has the trinity going on (3). The taller was topped and the shorter was fim'd. You can see they have both done very well since.

For nutes we have been sticking with Botanicare but am starting to look at other products. I have made my own teas in the past with very good luck.

For the seedlings we use Thrive-alive (green) from Technoflora and Hygrozyme.

During the first two week's of veg it's 5ml Grow; 5ml Karma; 5ml Blast Off; 5ml Aquashield at the rate of 1/6 gal per plant.

On the third and fourth weeks 10ml Grow; 10ml Karma; 10ml Blast Off; 10ml Aquashield at the rate of 1/6 per gallon. They sex'd during these weeks.

This is the fifth week. 5-7ml Soil Bloom; 5ml Karma; 5ml Blast Off; 5ml Aquashield; 5ml Hydroplex; 5ml Ultramax; 5ml Crystal Burst; A little bit o' Molasses.

Cal-mag has been used very little during this grow. When the leaves look a little yellow or pale but that hasn't happened much. Maybe twice during the 5 weeks at 5ml both times. They havn't been foliar fed much either. Once every 2 weeks at the most.

We have been letting the plants tell us when they are thirsty or hungry instead of forcing our will on them. They have responded well I think. Now that LED's are being used we don't have the worries we did in the past. We know what the temps (75) and we don't need to use any fans. No noisy blowers or motors. Just the fans of the LED's and they are pretty quiet. It's actually made some free-time for us since we aren't as worried we don't check as often.

I am loving these lights more and more each day. I went with Area 51 becasue of their customer service. I called and wrote several other major companies and only got 1 reply out of 6 letters. I don't care how good your lights are. If you can't take time to answer my easy questions then what are you gonna do when I really need you? Area 51 answered my emails and phone calls and has been a huge help in making the transition to LED's.

I have a photo project going on at the moment and am gonna switch out that light system for LED's too. I am gonna take a few cuts off the photo's that are in the pic above then move them over to the bloom room this weekend to make room for a few Onyx. The other beans I have yet to germ are Ultra Lemon Haze and Flash Babylon Auto. I had a Chaze but it never sprouted which stinks cause I was really excited about that strain. Gonna get a few of them next time.

Against my will the lights have been on 20/4 schedule. I like the 16/8 myself but open to change.

Here's updated pic's of the young'ns. The one in the Bio-char is struggling a bit. The PH is too high. I had to run some water off just to see where we were and it's in the high 7's. Not good. I am flushing it today and will take another reading later. The NYCD's are looking pretty good. I have not been paying them enough attention and need to move them around so branches stay pretty even. The FIM'd plant is looking good. I like the low profile it's keeping. So far the A51 has been a great investment and seems to be building good buds. The 235w is doing the mature plants very well and the 115w seems to be working with the young'ns.

I flushed the heck out of the container that was giving me such a high ph reading but could only get it down to 7.5. Not acceptable. I switched back to the original coco and grow cubes with just a hint of Bio-Char. I have tested the bio-char by itself and it is 6.5/6.6 so I know it wasn't the char. At this point I am gonna chalk it up to an old friend that passed away this year and is messing around with me. Yeah... I'm a believer.

In just the short 12 hours since the t-plant the thing has taken off. I must say I am very impressed with the way these Short Stuff strains grow. They have taken off much faster than the autos I have been messing with.

Things are coming along pretty good. I still have not figured what was up with the PH. All my other containers have a run off of 6.5/6.7 while the one HBD is 7.1/7.3 with the exact same medium. I am gonna let it go for another day or so to see what happens but if it remains locked up I am gonna pitch it. I have a very healthy HBD and another HBD that is in a cup waiting on a container along with another RRF and 2 Onyx. I had a RRF turn out to be a male. I am considering my options right now but chances are it's gonna get pitched too. I thought I wanted to save some pollen and cross any males I get out of this batch with females of other strains but I am having second thoughts. Might just build a real small box to keep it in. It would be nice to have some pollen in the freezer.

My water schedule has been a bit off. I am averaging about a week between waters but the plants seem to be fine with it. I am still impressed with the buds that this Area 51 LED is building on the NYCD's. The leaves are not the dark green they have been with HPS lamps but this is also the third time I have used this Coco in less than a year. I think that may have something to do with that one that is locked up. I don't have enough grows with LED's yet to say that the lighter leaves are caused by the lights.

The lighter leaves could be from a few things. I have not been using much cal-mag so that could be part of it. I am thinking that once this Coco is used up I am gonna go back to soil. I really like making my own super soil. I am getting to the point where I just don't want to check my plants everyday and I have confidence in soil to leave them be more than with Coco.

Time will tell. It's unfortunate that the quality of smoke from the NYCD's isn't very good.

Really anxious to get some flowers forming on the Short Stuff strains. I still have a ULH and a Flash Babylon waiting on germing along with a Spicy White Devil. That's the one I am really excited about but it's a photo at 20% thc.

Does anyone have experience with Hygrozyme? I have some of the best roots that I have ever seen and am wondering if it's because of the Hygrozyme. I have been experimenting with it and I think I can tell a difference when it's used and when it's not. I am starting to get tired of the Botanicare Nutes. I like them but would like to simplify things. All the supplements with Botanicare is getting a bit crazy. I think I can get just as good results, maybe even better, with less products.

Figured out why my leaves have been so light this grow. After all the suggestions I have read from most growers on here about feeding Auto's half recommended I thought I would try it on these NYCD's. Needless to say they seemed much happier and more green with full strength. They have really started to green back up when I went back to full strength.

I bought 9 seeds from Short Stuff. 3 HBD's, 3 Onyx, and 3 Russian Rocket Fuels. They all germed and were very healthy. 2 of the 9 were girls... worst percentage I've ever had. That's the HBD in the first pic on the left side. I will say that these didn't/don't like the full strength feeding.

As far as my lights go I am very very pleased with the Area 51 LED's. The flowers on the NYCD's might not look like much but they are hard as rocks and getting very good crystal coverage. The conditions were not the same from the pics in the first post where temps averaged in the 90's and 100's for most the grow. Averaging mid 70's this time around. The first grow was in a BCNL Producer with 860 watts. This grow has been with a A51-60 and A51-120. The 120 has been over the NYCD's while the 60 has been over the young'ns. That's a total of 280 watts. I will yield more and better nugs with the 280. I got around 30g's per plant with the Producer and I should get around 45g's with the LED's.

As far as fim'ing and topping autos... I can't say for other strains but for the NYCD's I have been growing I really think that they benefit from both techniques. I get much better nugs from plants that were either topped or fim'd.

Fisnishing up the NYC. After some more research I do not think this is NYCD. I think it is NYC. I do not know for sure but it sure doesn't smell like NYCD. No matter what it is I think it came out pretty good. I bought these seds ini a parking lot and really didn't know what I was getting. Out of the 100 or so seeds I got there were a couple of phenos but all in all the NYC strain is a great one. I think it would make a good breeder and regret that I didn't do that.

As far as yield goes I think I can expect about 45-60 grams per plant when it dries. I honestly think the topped one will bring around 60 when the fim'd will be around 50. I will yield more from the pruned plants than I did from the one's I just let grow.

I have a Himalayan Blue Diesel that is still 3 weeks out, an Onyx that is probably 5 weeks out, and a Flash Babylon that just started.

Realized this weekend that the bio-char has been causing the ph to rise. This just makes sense and I should have thought it through in the first place instead of believing a friend. I believe that the char would be good as a tea where you can control the ph. But not as a soil amendment.
