Using diapers to grow! Who woulda thunk it??!!

I doubt the "gel" will last for long. In Australia, being a bit on the dry side, "gels" is standard fare in garden centers and such, I never saw anything that tolerated more than 4-5 wet/dry cycles before it collapsed into a gooei mess when it was placed in a glass for a little private R/D.
I have also seen trials of "gel" used to maintain humidity in cold rooms, placed in the airflow of a t-bar floor, same thing happened.........no longevity.
