Differing Ph levels.

Hello to everyone on the forum. You guys are all awesome and really seem to know what you're talking about. I have been 'trolling' around here since March and am currently about halfway through my 2nd grow. If not for all the expert advice I've read on here, I would most surely have fucked up by now. So thank you all. Quick question about something I'm a little confused about: have heard that one shouldn't ph water when growing in soil and have also heard that you should? Not quite sure what the answer is - anyone feel like advising?
If you know what your doing, and how your soil buffers... and know the quality of your water then no you don't need to ph your water. I have a buddy that never dose using subcools super soil. I however could never get the hang of dirt. so I stick to hydro and I have to check the ph daily.
