Indoor Dirt Bag-----advise

Howdy:

Going to try 'dirt bags'. They have handles, smartPots don't.

Questions:

Any problems/issues I need to be aware of?

What is best watering method to check PH run-off?

Just a friendly question.Why are you using dirt bags instead of reg pots? If you have to use dirt bags checking the runoff is th same as reg pots.Just have a runoff tray under the pots and water till tray fills with water and test the ph the same as any other pot.

Raise them up off the floor a bit so that you get air circulation under, as well as around them.

Muddys right-get air under and around them! I use some old refrigerator wire shelves to get them off the floor. When you water just collect runoff in a driptray and take your reading from that.

I used them i dont anymore because of problems just sitting upright. I use air pots now but when i used dirt bags i also got a rack that used for drying dishes

I use dirt bags and picked them over smart pots because of the nifty handles and being $1 cheaper. I pay $4 for a 5 gallon dirt bag. Do what fullauto suggested and use old wire racks of some sort. i lined the bottom of my tent with them for air flow. if you leave them on the ground you'll risk a mushy bottom pot that could cause root rotting.

when watering it's best to use a watering can with a spout that comes out steady but allows you to pour slow and evenly. pour too fast and all the water will run out the side of the bag!

Yes, I can use regular pots and will if the bags are troublesome.

Thought I would use the dirt bags to keep temp of root zone lower/air circulation etc.

This needs to be a very uncomplicated grow for me at this time----------so, if pots meet that objective then I will stay with them. What do you think.

Muddy--if you make it back--I just found a recent statement of yours concerning smart pots which are very similar to dirt bags:

"Personally, I'm no fan of Smart Pots. I've tried them 3 times, both indoors and out, and have not really seen a difference between them and the plastic nursery pots I use. They dried out too fast for me, especially when I tried them under HPS lights. I also found that keeping them raised off the floor was a PITA in my small indoor space." With my environment and small grow space couple with your three trials I will follow your advice. And they might stay soggy under LED. Thanks and use the old pots.
