Lighting DIY 3120 led lumen- opinions

With the lumen out put of multiple lights added together dont amass to a higher number so

6 x 520 lumen bulbs dont add to 3120 lumens but only 520

sounds like Blue,Anthro and Pops have you covered. I too tried the DIY lights to try and save $. after all was said and done and all the additional challenges that came up, I spent $50 more than if I just bought an LED panel!

When you can buy a 180 watt LED grow light for $80, that’s tuned to be a growlight, its just about not worth building one for any reason other than just for the hell of it. And Lumens tells you " how much water is in the hose", but not if its usable. " Lumens are for humans, PAR is for plants! "

Hmm i have actually grown with different diy led´s at around 54w give ore take some watts. It´s all documented here on AFN
And still using 4 small 27 watt panels mostly for vegging.
Heres a link to what can be done with 54w of diy led panels

LOOK AT the big low plant ( the last one)

"My 2 cents"
Money wise
If you have the space for a commercial led panel go get one.
Ore get a couple of those floodlight Balarama suggested, they will work for vegging
My first panel used 10w chips same as the 10w floodlight..

Regarding lumen/ lux
i use cree bins and they have 85% more lux 54w compared to those flood lights..
And the 54w cree bins have 20% less lux than my 100w hps. But im pretty damm sure it can produce the same and save money in the process

So if it´s lumen your after forget about those floodlight and get a commercial led panel

Best way to put it if one bulb has an effective distance for the lumens of 6 inches away from the bulb putting 6 together will still only give an effective distance of 6 inches. Were as a single bulb with a rating of 3000 lumens would have a effective distance of well over the 6 inches of that of the 520 lumen bulb. The lights on your car you have 2 Head lights having 2 doesn't make you see further it just gives you a wider spread where and when you put your full beams on ( which have a higher watwattage/lumen output) let's you see further

Ok, now I get it.
You're talking about light intensity at given distance. Of course small lamps will still have lower output compared to more powerful ones, but it's exactly the spread of more lamps that makes the difference.
Used over a larger area, the same light emission allows plants to grow closer to the light, being useful in smaller grows and so on.
But there are limitations to be considered, regarding all light emission technologies. For example, 25W cfl bulbs have better lumen/W compared to higher(250) watt cfl(also less heat and electronic hazard), on the other hand a 1000W hps has higher lumen/W compared to lower W hps bulbs. Leds also need some minimum intensity to be considered useful, so there's plenty of factors to consider. Hard to say where's the optimum, some growers prefer narrow and more intense light for tall areas, some grow with fluoro tubes where plants touch the lights without damage.
