Hey guys, I've completed two DWC grows now and have time for one more before upgrading my lights/equipment. I've found I prefer growing one plant at a time so was thinking of ways I could potentially increase yield with the same nutes without adding more light. I've decided to experiment with a bigger res - I know a lot of people have done this before so it's not exactly a ground breaking experiment but I am curious none the less.
This afternoon I decided to chop my 100L water butt down to a size which holds roughly 50L of water (during grow the water level will be 40L). I removed the middle section of plastic allowing me to slide the top of the water butt back on top to hold the netpot/plant in place, providing an inch gap between the bottom of the net pot and the top of the water level. The top half of the water butt and the netpot/plant can all be removed separately for optimum manoeuvrability. Kinda hard to imagine without pics so here you go
There's a tap for drainage which will make res changes super easy too.
Here it is with the top on:
For my regular DWC grows I use a 30lpm pump for each 20L bucket so I will use both pumps to potentially give me 60lpm of air running through the res. Here's what it looks like with the pumps in place and with bubbles on:
Obviously this is a very basic design with tweeks to be made but I thought I'd share what I'm up to! I guess at best it's a simple solution to creating a bigger res with no res change hassles, doesn't have to be the same size as mine either, get creative.
I'll most likely be popping a Dragon into this system to see how it runs, just waiting on a delivery which should be here tuesday/wednesday so I'll keep you all updated and start a new thread accordingly.
