Looking at the parts list for the UK :

raspberry pi 30
2gb sd card 05
ac adaptor 05
micro usb cable 05
usb wireless adaptor 05
usb audio dac 10 (or less if little usb soundcard used)
amplifier (necessary?) 10 (usb soundcard may have own amp?)

70

£70 per room not including speakers, £60 if no amp.

I love the instructables site, they have some awesome DIY projects but if it is cheaper to buy off the peg . then that the way I'd go.
