DIY DIY Tent Idea

Cool idea. I have seen several using pvc frames or just wood. Always thought about making one and never got around to it. :D

I just built a little box for cloning and to gather pollen. Just made the frame out of wood, using panda film for the walls and ceiling.

those things are seriously flimsy, lost my balance and leaned against it for support, it crumpled with a crack and i landed on top of it.

Listen to Riz, don't use one of those for a frame. Build your own frame so it can actually support your light, fan and filter. Why risk coming home to a burnt down house and some chuckling cops standing over the start of the fire, your burnt and collapsed grow. Homeless and jail time. Always err on the side of caution and overbuild/wire a grow cab.

If you do build a frame and staple panda film to it don't forget to place a little square of cardboard over the plastic then staple. This prevents the plastic from tearing off easily, which it will.

I have a very similar cab to this... I bought a shelving unit from Ikea for £26 then just some hardwood panels from B&Q for the top, bottom and sides, then a piece of MDF for the door. Works like a charm! Although it's pretty damn heavy if you want to move it!

As riz said it really is quite flimsy unless you attach some panels to the side, but well worth it when finished!

I have one of those shelving units from ikea as well, that is much more solid than the Argos one. i can imagine the weight of it with mdf on the sides. Point to note though, they come in two sizes, make sure you get the deeper one if you go for that.

I also considered the formufit and quickfit idea's but once you throw in all the extras you end up needing you can sometimes be cheaper with a tent.

If you are looking for really cheap and have transport, those ikea and argos units get given away on freecycle quite often.

In the UK, check out greens horticulture on a daily basis, they do a deal of the day and the tents feature a lot, sometimes with up to 33% off.
