Grow Mediums Do you rinse your coco? You should. Here's why.

Good reminder Bro! I use the botanicare big brick and first brick was very clean I only rinsed it for 5 mins and runoff was clear.. the other one looked like coffee was being poured thru it lol and took a while to finally come out clear.

Do you use a ppm meter? I rinse until the runoff ppm matches what is going in. Then I amend mix and plant. I had the runoff from one brick read 1100 ppm.

Yeah thats pretty hot coir! For the initial rinse I don't measure the runoff.. only after I see the runoff come out clear is when I add the charging solution.. first I add at 1.0 ish EC of grow A and B until I read the runoff at at least 0.8 EC.

The high PPM could be salts ( they are coconuts from near the ocean) and small coconut particles from the de-husking process. Im sure that most of the cheaper unbuffered coco is probably "washed" with water from the ocean and/or some sort of mildly filtered water.
