I got a dark devil from sweet seeds that is taking longer than advertised. Day 80. I have it on a 24/0 light cycle and my question is can the 24hrs of light be why its taking so long? I know a auto-flowering plant can flower under 24hrs of light but could the trade off be a longer flowering period?

About half the Dark Devil grows I've seen have been going past the 60's....(I'm growing 2 as well) I don't know whether that's based on when the growers like to harvest their plants or if it's a pheno thing or an environmental thing....(Light type, Light cycle, soil, hydro, etc.) You may experiment with something like a 22/2 or 20/4 to see what happens but in general, it's a rule of thumb that these autos (all autos) are going longer than advertised. I think there is pressure on the breeders to exaggerate speed to attract impatient customers...

Well simply said. The plants grow faster in the Night times. So if u dont give them any dark they will grow a lil bit slower than a 20/4 or 18/6 light cycle. Ill do the same with my Photos first 4 weeks 24/0 to get a massive Root development but not so big plants.

I guess to speak to this, I'm growing a seed that is one of two different seeds I had ordered, which I accidentally mixed up but both seeds are advertised 60-75 days from seed until harvest.. Although I stunted mine a tiny bit at the beginning, it bounced back, but I'm nearing day 60 and I'm still what I presume to be another 3 weeks away from harvesting at least!!! I know I've read a lot of folks on here and other forums believe that some darkness is best for them since it helps the plant regenerate, but some folks have had great success with 24/0.. I suppose as Trapper said, a lot of it comes down to the pheno and perhaps even the environment it's in..

Any pics??

The number they give you is an estimate, every plant is different. my "60 day" white widow went 84 days, and probably could have went another week. I figure anything that finishes in 90 days or less is great.

Yeah bulk buds in 3 months is still pretty awesome. So hard to tell when done is done...well for me being a noob it is... I got 3 plants still running with all cloudy trichs and 5-10% amber... probably even more amber on one of them... and the leaves haven't even yellowed and its still throwing pistols... so im like is it done... or do I wait... trichlomes say yes plant says no. Manufacturers estimation is probably more like the earliest you could harvest some reasonable bud rather than the optimum time for a bumper harvest

not all plants need dark , cannabis is in the group/type that do actually grow better under 24 hrs light , obviously thats "growing" and not flowering , a photo strain will need the darkness to flower

for growth , its been biologically proven cannabis grows something like 30% better under 24 hr lighting

not trying to step on anyones toes or argue , just posting up some professionally proven fact , not all plants are the same when it comes to light/dark/co2 etc

peace

p.s. its my belief autos will grow bigger under 24 hr lighting but also take a bit longer , but only if everything else is optimal , if the root zone gets stunted it wont recover nearly as well without rest , but thats all just my belief

My dark devil has just started to show pre flowers going into the 5th week. its been on 247 lighting.

Thanks for the replies. Next grow Im doing 20/4. And as for the pics, Im kinda unsure about that. I know I could have gotten better results. Im using floranova & about 3 weeks in I got some brown slime. It hurt my feelings to have that experience. Especially since the floranova stains the roots brown regardless of the slime. I spent $100 bucks apiece on gallon jugs of grow and bloom... Just had my spirit all screwed up. Peroxide worked for a day or so, I ended up having to do a compost tea. Thats working very well. Its responsible for the 3 feet of growth and medium branching I did get.

I started at 24 then after three weeks I switched to 18 and both plants stopped veg and went right into flower. I believe the switch had something to do with them flowering because NLxBB is generally not a 19" plant. Also, many of the white dwarf's satellite branches were way underdeveloped, very short. I chopped 4 of them I believe.

I definitely notice more growth when I check the plants after dark period than during the same amount of time in light. This has been during both veg and flower, for my only two autos so far at least.
