Purple lights Day 15

So I'm getting kinda frustrated here. Following the GH recirculating guide at full strength for the first 2 weeks definitely stunted my purple lights. The other ones look okay I guess but their growth is slow.. Not sure what's going on with my purple lights. Barely any growth in 3 days...

I just removed the hydroton carefully from the netpots to inspect the roots and came to some disappointment. Any roots poking out were literally this long ( - ) Yes as big as that dash symbol and were fat/chodey looking. This happened to ALL 3. I'm guessing this happened because of the drip system or because of the full strength gh recirculating feed for flora. So, I've reordered new seeds and will start this up again if these don't recover. I removed the drip lines to let the hydroton just wick up the drink.

Not having any luck lately. But, yeah I did screw it up myself...

I will be transferring the stunted think different and sas into coco pots if they recover and when the new seeds arrive, I will just re-update properly on this thread instead of creating a new one.

This is for all of you wanting to dive into DWC, here it is in full proof with pictures and details.

  • Do not use a drip system in bubbleponics. It just slows things down and raises chances of overwatering, preventing root growth.
  • Do not feed full strength according to the nute manufactures feeding chart. Feed 1/4 strength first 2 weeks. Less is more.
  • Block all light from passing through to the reservoir. I clearly didn't the first 2 weeks, as you can see in the photos.
  • Good luck and may the green thumb be with you.

..The more you know. Don't experiment until you've got experience lol.. I was a little trigger happy with the first feed.

i dont think i will ever try to grow in anything other than soil or coco, I know I will do someting stupid while stoned and looking after cannibis grows puts me in the mood to be stoned

Honestly, after using coco for 4 grows, I find dwc a lot easier and cleaner. Realized that in my purple lights log before it all came tumbling down lol. The problem in this log is that I changed nutes and decided to follow the feeding chart at full strength on only day 3. STUPID. Somehow I assumed it wouldn't hurt with that nute line but now I'll never make that same mistake.. Among most mistakes I've made.. Lol

I still have yet to beat a 55g auto yield out of 100% coco in a 2.5gal airpot from my first grow using cheap cfls. Check her out in the album on my profile. The funny part is, I didn't have a ph or ppm meter and I didn't use nutes till day 12 or so. After that was maybe 1/2 strength with the botanicare pbp line. I just can't match it! Lol it's frying my brain. Gotta stop fuckin around.. And rambling.. :p

Don't be discouraged with hydro though. I royally fucked up and know what I did wrong. Hopefully the next batch will be flawless..

Just learned that not only I burned my seedlings, but over watered them because my drip irrigation flows at full force, sending a jet of water into each net pot. Gotta find a way to set the flow rate down to a few drops a minute and that's if I decide to top feed until the roots hit the drink. Still debating on it. My irrigation manifold has a flow adjuster (which was set to full flow) and it still sends too much water at the lowest setting. I'm not sure what I would need to set it to down to a few drops. Gonna research.

I'll be adding as much detail as possible with what I'm doing to better my grow and to help out any growers new to hydro/dwc. This could be a good reference guide with visual proof showing what happens when you fuck up the way I did, so it doesn't happen to you. Anything to help the community.

I found this 'introduction to bubbleponics/dwc guide' with the most information and easy to follow step by step procedure. This guy is absolutely redundant (and I love that) in the way he explains things because he does it to burn it in your head so you won't forget. His information is backed with tons of pictures logging his grow. So, I'll basically be using this as a reference guide for when my new seeds get here. Here is his link: dwc tutorial

Summarized information that I have gathered:
  • adjust drip line flow to a very slow drop rate and feed line through the BOTTOM of the netpot, not the middle. (if using drip)
  • feed 1/4 strength when 3rd and 4th leaves show (2nd node) (not counting cotyledons)
  • keep ppm 300 max for seedlings (including water ppm in total) and raise 100ppm a week after 3rd node.

Hope this helps anyone having trouble out there. Wouldn't want you running into the same shit I did.

Happy growing

good luck bro

Thanks man :buds:! Gonna need all the grow karma I can get. Been doing a lot of studying and lurking on auto dwc grows the past few days. Testing the new 'proper' method on some of my crossbred autos right now to see how they react since I have a ton of seeds.. Just in the meantime while I wait for the new seeds. I'll donate the little girls to one of my patients so he can have a go with them after I get my new set of seeds in. This opportunity should give me the learning curve I need. I'll log them as well.

As for the 3 that were in the res.. they turned into runts and I don't have time for that, so I tossed them in the bin. RIP.

Soaking 2 of my purple lights seeds now
