Live Stoner Chat Electricy bill to die

Gonna throw it out there as Ive been thinking about this....maybe a bad thing as I ain't Nikola Tesla(best genius ever).....is it possible to put small solar panels in my grow room and self power my lamps from them?....or maybe I shouldn't think when stoned haha

On the roof or the ceiling of the grow room ,I can't use outside roof for reasons of stealth......just figured there must be a way of harnessing the abundance of light in there and run lights for free

The answer is simple. It will never work. The amount of energy coming from the sun is vastly superior to anything from a grow light. You could recapture some of the excess light with panels around the plant, but you would probably recover something like 5% of the power used to run the lights.

absolutely, many people buy small panels, and a car battery to run pumps and such.

Maybe as a backup for sump pumps and that but theres no way a simple small panel and car battery is going to power anything in a grow room other then a couple 12v items,And fyi a car battery will die quick in a solar setup lol

Sure it would be great to have a self powered grow room but going to spend a good couple thousand to get anywhere close to doing it ;)

I think that perhaps the best use of solar is simply to buy the best grid tie inverter you can afford and either have it installed or if you know your chops do it yourself. Then buy one panel at a time and tie it directly to your electric grid. As time goes by buy another panel and add. It will begin to passively offset the usage and you can buy a panel every 6 months or so and spend an hour on the roof mounting and plugging it into the harness. Solar is a bit like erosion. Not much going on at any one time but over the course of a year you can harvest a hell of a lot of electric off the roof of your house. It is only a matter of time before we get our act together and start making solar roof's virtually free to homeowners that install them since it would take a tremendous weight off of a aging grid. That is, in my eye, what governments can do well. Steer public policy towards technologies that will ensure a safer and more secure tomorrow.

Wet blanket off now.

Haha! I spend on average 180GBP a month on my setup. I'd love to only pay 300Euro for a year!

wow...we are on a leccy meter and I've got my set up down to about £10 - £15 a week to run and that 2 tents. Cob lighting has saved me near on £10 a week.

Wow that's $330 Australian dollars!! I get my bill every three months and it's anywhere from $500-$700 :bummer:
