Hi,

i've been growing for nearly two years now, using CFL and organic compost/nutes.

The strains i've grown so far include :

Dutch Passion Star Ryder.
Dutch Passion Auto Blueberry.
Dutch Passion Taiga.
World of Seeds Afghan Kush Ryder.
Joint Doctor Low Ryder.

and some others i forget for the moment.

The only strain that has had a decent high for me has been the AKR, all of the rest have been either very weak or seemingly no effect at all.

I've been told by a few people that the only thing that has an effect on potency is the strain but i feel unsure about this, as others that have grown the strains mentioned above have had excellent highs (especially DP Blueberry).

Am i doing something wrong, are there other factors that have an effect on potency ?

Any info greatly appreciated.

PAR(or light Penetration), Lumens, Wattage per square meter. Whats your setup like, Light is the biggest factor i can think of, or that i know of. what kind of cfls do you use? how do you dry your buds?

There are a lot of factors affecting potency, good genetics of course is a must. Are your buds airy or dense and frosty? I have only run two DP autos, Autoxtreme and Polarliights #3 and both were potent. I am by no means calling you out, but something is wrong if you are getting no effects from DP's gear even if it is an auto.:peace:

My first set of auto's i grew in an organic soil mix that i got from the hydro shop that was only supposed to require tap water, My buds grew beautiful but when i smoked them at the end the high left a lot to be desired. I took a break for a while and decided to back burner auto's and go photo for a minute. At the urging of a friend i decided to try a fertilizer but to his dismay i chose Advanced Nutrients Sensi bloom. He though i was crazy and gave me a strain that he had grown before to try it on all the while lecturing me for not using his prefered brand. I grew the strain out it was Purple Arrow. After it was done he came over to sample my wares and was amazed! turns out he was trying to be an asshole and gave me a strain that grew very weak (as far as potency) for him. I tell you all of this because it made me think that maybe what i fed my original auto's just didn't get the job done and i had been a little short sighted. My second set of Auto's was also the lowryder #2 and Easy ryder. I was still adjusting to the nutes and the autoflower genes but the effect and potency were much closer to what i was looking for and i though that it was step in the right direction. I decided to try auto's again with a little more exp under my belt and see what happens. I just took down a plant to make room for some of my bigger girls and i took her down probably 2 maybe 3 weeks early. It was A Dark Devil from sweet seeds. I would put it up against anything that i can get at a dispensary and would tell you that it will beat out 80% of what is there, and that was a deep dark purple one that isn't even supposed to be as strong as the green ones! I told you all this to tell you that while i do think that Genes are the number 1 factor in potency i also think that the things we do to the plant are almost just as big of a peice of the puzzle. Just a rumor that i read after my organic stint, Organic soil is great if you want ease and rich smell and taste but it doesnt always maximize the potency factor. I cant back that up 100% but it is veiw that i have seen expressed several times through out many forums.

Thank you very much for the replies.

I use a Plug and Grow 300W vegging and a P&G 250W flowering (both around 20K Lumens), growbox space is 60x60cm (2x2 ft) at the base and 120cm (4 ft) high.

I dry my buds in the same box, it has taken anywhere from 3 to 9 days.

I normally use Plant Magic organic compost and PM Old Timer organic nutes.

I have spoken with a fair few other organic growers (not the sort that brew their own teas, just the lazy ones like me !) who have good potency using the same soil and nutes.

It's also weird that the AKR is a lovely smoke using the same system ...

An interesting article here :

How to Grow Marijuana Organically...But is it "Better Than Hydroponics?" | BigBuds Magazine - Your one source for growing medical marijuana

I'm thinking maybe i should go the whole hog and brew my own stuff or just buy the basic Advanced Nutrients grow and bloom, being lazy i'll probably go the AN way.

For the moment i'm just doing AKR because i know it works but i'll probably go chemical for other strains.

My first couple of grows were crap but by grow 3 (StarRyder) i got a handle on it :

And this was the chop :

Four ounces from four plants, each in a 2L pot. People told me it was a good result for a CFL grow, nice, solid nugs.

Thanks again for the advice :)

I plop my girls straight into fox farm ocean forest ( I know people say its to hot but I might add a little lime to it to make it around 6.4-6.6 and never had a problem I use fox farm big bloom grow big tiger bloom boomerang sledge hammer flush open sesame beastie blooms cha ching cal mag + molasses and Epsom salts all 1/2 strength when needed and all 9 strains I grew were some badass shit even the first couple low yielding grows, something your doin wrong cause autos in my opinion kick my ass

Thanks faded, ye i may have to change my system after this AKR grow.

High!

Weird, your plants look great!

How many days from seeds?
Have you checked trichs?

Peace!

The starryders were chopped at 71 days, trichs were just turned cloudy.

I think maybe they dried too fast, 3-5 days i can't remember.
