Hi auto growers, im after some advice, I got myself a dr150 2x 600 hps cooltube set up with 16 dp autowhite widows in 3 gallon pots. I'm real happy with how its going but my extractor fan, although its a background humming, is enough to cause concern. Any tips/tricks n diy to silence my air extraction?

You can buy duct wrap insulation at a home improvement store and wrap several layersaround the blower and see if that helps,

Its a system air rvk extraction fan, don't think its vibration, its defo air movement noise from within the unit. Its loud enough to be the weak link in my set up. Duct wrap - you mean like bubble wrap?

Can build a DIY cardboard box and line the entire inside with egg crates and place the fan inside thd box with two holes so ducting can be ran.

No the installation i belive he is talking about is regular home installation not bubble wrap

I've got some acoustic ducting on the exhaust of my fan and the air noise is certainly quieter than when using the normal ducting.
For my "My 2 cents" bubble wrap (or a sleeping bag) wrapped around the ducting has got to be worth trying hasn't it? Best of luck :peace:

It is a foil covered fiberglass about half inch thick and comes in rolls.

Yeah, G, that insulation nam is talking about would be the trick. It sounds (ha!) like your ducting is noisy as it moves air, yes? Then that insulation is a permanent fix, or you could- deftly- wrap the ducting with a blanket, etc. Be SURE that the ducting doesn't get too hot- it shouldn't, but safety is King- before wrapping it with any cloth. No fires allowed... Yup :)

Yeah, I reckon then its gotta be a box stuffed with summats insulated like egg cups then n a bit of acoustic ducting. Should do the trick. Will implement this at the weekend, thanks for the tips dudes, I reckon it only needs to suppress a couple of decibels to make a big difference and drop my grow completely off the radar. Basically its a tent in the garage. The tents insulated from showing direct heat by sourounding it in large thick polystyrene so I bet the acoustic ducting will insulate some of the warmth too
