Hi-
After Sour Crack, Toof, and Ripley grows I decided to push my luck with one of Mephisto's largest strains. (I grow in a converted wine cabinet which limits my plants' height to about 21 inches with 3 gallon pots.) Lighting is 2 horizontal clusters of 4 bulbs each for a maximum of 270 watts. Soil/nutes are Roots (love the stuff), FF Trio, Microblast and molasses.

My single grow Fantasmo at 49 Days:
(18" tall)

Its been a very easy, no drama grow so far ...

WOW.. How were you able to get the side colas so large, that's beyond beautiful man.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the compliment.

Nothing too tricky here in terms of growing. It helps if you start with great genetics. Just planted her off center and did some aggressive (greater than 90 degree) LST on her main stem very early on and continued with less aggressive LST up till now.

I really like her structure ... she's just starting to put on some weight...could turn out real nice (or not:()

Here we are at Day 57. Its been an uneventful grow and she has started to chunk up quite a bit. I am surprised by how little she smells; maybe its coming.
She was fed this morning and will continue to be fed until Day 70 with a two week flush following. That's the plan anyway. We'll see what the leaves say a little
further on.

Best to all!

Hi folks --

Today is CHOP DAY! This is Day 70 and I really wanted her to go another 5 days or so but got jammed by my next grow currently in veg in a even smaller filterless cabinet. I also wanted to do a proper dry w/o lights on (a novelty for me). So in 5 days or so the Fantasmo will go into jars just as the next girl starts to get pleasantly stinky and needs to go into my main cabinet.

I once again had the problem of being out of meds for the last two weeks of the grow so I have been extensively sampling. I didn't take any of the main colas but I took a lot of the low hanging fruit. I can't judge the quality w/o a proper dry and cure other than to say it is effective.

I'm pretty sure she will be my best single plant grow weight-wise. All credit goes to Mitch and the Mephisto boys. Just another home run ...

VERY resinous, surprising relatively low odor (orange peel and something else but I don't have a good nose so it could be anything.)

Here she is a few days ago:

Here she is today:

The bud porn:

The rough trim while keeping the shape of the colas. (I reluctantly cut them up further before bagging to facilitate drying and to get rid of the stems.) BTW, if you look closely in the upper left you can see what I use to look at buds (not the pink sunglasses!) Its a clip on loupe(s) which goes on standard cheaters. I think with 3x cheaters, it gives you 41x. Once I got used to it, I WAY preferred it to a handheld loupe ... head doesn't shake as much as my hands. Available at Harbor Freight for about $12 or so.

And the smaller buds and popcorn:

All together now:

This makes the fourth Mephisto strain I've grown ( Sour Crack, Toof, Ripley's) ... I wonder what I should try next. Any suggestions for a creative, up high??

Happy Growing and Best to All--

Bayes

Thanks Elvis and Jraven for stopping by and the rep points!

Forgot to mention earlier...

Although I use pipe cleaners for most of my LST efforts, I do not use pipe cleaners for the the very first main stem bend (90 degree or greater).

I use the u-shaped metal hold down clamps used to hold down outside PVC drip irrigation lines. They look like this:

hold down clamps 001.JPG

The heavier gauge one has "legs" of 6", the other has 4" long legs. (I prefer the longer length -- they hold better.)

I've used these in my last 5 grows. I place one maybe 3/4" away from the main stem, support the main stem from the opposite direction with a pipe cleaner and tuck the top of the stem under the hoop. I push the hoop down with my thumb, keeping forefingers on each leg (provides control and "braking" if you get too exuberant with your thumb.) I usually add another a few days later further away to keep the stem down as the others race due to genetics (apical dominance) to replace the tied down stem (simulated decapitation.)

For me, I just find it better to exert force in one direction, i.e., downward,as opposed to downward and laterally using a cleaner or other tie. Of course, you don't have to do the final bend all at once ... just push down a little more over a series of day or two.

A small thing to be sure ...just thought I would share what works best for me.
