Extraction first attempt at cannabutter.. don't think it's right

The cool part is, if you make it STRONG like I do, a cookie the size of an American quarter dollar will keep me blasted for half a day... so very little edible to eat, means less taste to choke down, although I don't mind the taste too much.

I make mine so strong though that after 1 cookie the size of an american quarter dollar you are good for about a half a day

My edibles mess up people that say "Edibles don't do anything to me" lol, sending people like that home from work lol

I like your style...
Must be a Colorado thing. Potent edibles.
We take Power Bars to another level.

Like the title says, I don't think I got it right. I used my little crock pot and 2 lbs of butter and about 1.6 oz of trim and popcorn ground up in a coffee grinder. I only used about a cup and held of water and the butter turned out lookin good, but the fudge I just made has a subtle, but horrible taste from the butter.

Could it be that I needed more water to draw out some of the less favorable stuff, or is it normal to have a weird taste?

Here are some pics of the process.

I'm no expert, at growing, but I have done my fair share of cooking edibles, and as far as flavor goes, I'm pretty good at it. When my friends want edibles cooked up, they holla at me to get the job done, because the end result has much less of that grassy, chlorophyll like taste, and the color of the butter isn't so green. What's my secret? I water cure my buds for about a week, changing the water every day. That's it. A lot of people are hesitant to soak their bud in water, for fear of it losing some of its potency. At first, I was too, but after doing a lot of reading, I decided to give it a shot. As far as I can tell, the bud loses almost no potency, if any at all. Flavor is the bomb, and the effect kicks ass like a donkey. Google the water cure technique, do some reading on it, and give it a shot. I'm willing to bet the flavor of your butter ends up being much better.

Oh noo doubt water curing is awesome.Like ya said, its a very foreign thing to many ppl to involve soaking yer buds in a Jar of water..LOL that and straining, man you'll be lucky to taste much, thats for sure."AFN smoke out"

Thanks for the co-sign, Eyes. A lot of people who I try to introduce to the concept of water curing try to play me out like I don't know shit, and look at me like a fool when I try to explain it. Members of AFN know your knowledge is deep, so they'll be more likely to give my post a bit of consideration with you backing it up.
:pass:

Yeah, they'll definitely wanna strain it!

Don't feel too bad, I just made a second butter batch since the first was weak AND tasted horrific... Made the second try stronger, and tastes even worse! I tried to bury the taste in a rice krispy treat recipe... Oh wow it's bad, I mean totally inedible. In fact I took one bite and heaved, almost puked lol, and I hadn't even swallowed it down. So, total waste, sadface. I'm a good cook too, well normally I guess lol!

So, next time.. Unfortunately it'll be at least a month till I have enough trim saved up again. I'm going to figure out how to water cure the trim if possible. Also I keep reading that Coconut Oil instead of butter, makes it taste less plant-ey (?) And I am not going to be lazy next time, and will do the two additional washes after the initial butter/oil infusion :)

So yeah, there's a lol story :almost barfed and didn't even get Dowd-ed lol. (Maureen Dowd reference)

Water curing is a pretty simple process, so don't sweat it. Just make sure you totally submerge your trim/buds, change the water every day until it is clear (I always go 7, just to be sure all chlorophyll is out), and store in a cool, dark place. That simple method has never failed me yet, and your medibles will taste more edible

do you water cure and decarb? if so, which do you do first?

Yeah, I do both. Cure first, then decarb.

Water cured cannabis will make any edible. Well.....edible.

The water cure will eliminate the chlorophyll in the buds. That will give any edible a much better taste. Decarb isn't necessary, but highly recommended. Not a scientist, but the decarb process converts THCA into THC. There is plenty of info on how to do it here on AFN.

I usually just grind up a gram or less and let it simmer (NOT HOT) in 2 TBS of olive oil. Add some chopped garlic and a few red pepper flakes. Toss with cooked pasta or veggies. Be very careful, because the high will be strong and LONG. Six to eight hours is not uncommon.

Water cured cannabis is the way to go if you're planning to do edibles.

Note: This cannabutter was done with regular cured cannabis. I've water cured my last batch before making the butter. The water cured butter has a smooth and very little "Canna" taste.
