Ok, first THC oil was produced from my grow. I used approx 2oz of very dry bud. Stuffed and then placed them in my freezer over night. Poured 95.5% ABV ethanol that was also left in the freezer over night... all over the buds. Gave them a good crushing/stirring for several minutes and let them sit in the freezer for a few minutes. Strained the buds...and poured an additional half gallon of 95.5 alcohol over the buds letting it strain into a collection vessel. I used about 1 gallon of ethanol(total) and filtered it once using a funnel and coffee filter. I tossed out the spent buds and poured the gallon of alcohol/THC solution into my still(see below). Took about 1.5 hours to remove about 80% of the gallon...I will reuse the alcohol on my next run; what is nice is that I used the ethanol I produced from my CO2 production...see other posts.
Below are the photos. The two little jars should be very pure THC oil. I used about half a cup of coconut oil to clean out my cooking bowl so as not to waste the residual THC; this should be strong cooking oil.
Full picture of my newly made boiler with attached essence extractor head...made the head over a year ago. I put a thermometer port down low so I can watch closely the rising temps...Don't want to burn the THC oil.
I use a separate heating element...I have a gas stove and it is way to dangerous boiling 95.5ABV ethanol on. You should do this in a well ventilated area with no open flame.
This was what remained after filling the small containers below.
I haven't weight it, but considering how strong this stuff is it should last us a while.
I used half cup of coconut oil to clean the bowl and melt the THC oil off the spoon etc. It should be strong...make some nice cookies/brownies -- You think??
Thanks for you help folks. I wouldn't have been successful without your help!
