New Grower First grow, many problems!

hey man they looking good sucks about all the bad luck ya had is really frustrating i know from experience when the bad luck rains it pours will all come right find what works for you and stick to it and will all be gravy peace :stylez rasta smoke:

I need some advice here. Of the 3 BAM i had left, I put 2 in the jiffy pellets and left one in the kitchen towel. One of the seeds in the jiffy pellets has sprouted but its 6 days old and hasn't really changed much. It also looks very different to the AWW i germinated. It's in the first pic below.

The other seed in the pellet hasn't even broken through the soil yet after 6 days and it was soaked in Ph'd water beforehand.

The third seed I left in the kitchen paper and although it cracked open, the tail never really left the shell so I'm leaving it another while to see what happens. Its in the 3rd pic below. It has been open for a few days but the tail hasn't grown since.

The middle pic is of the last of my AWW that I soaked in water and put into kitchen towel yesterday. 3 of the 4 have tails and I've just put them in jiffy pellets. These just don't seem to give any trouble at all and I bet they will be poking through the soil tomorrow morning!

Are the BAM just REALLY slow or do they not like the conditions? I can't think of a way to improve what I'm doing and the AWW seem to be loving it.

Have you been keeping the jiffy pellet moist with the odd spray of water?
Or is your jiffy pellet in a propgator with the vents open?

I've never had a jiffy pellet burn a seedling, - although those BAM leaves look a little burned to me. More likely heat burn (too hot and dry)

It won't help now, but maybe this isn't the germing method for you! I have used jiffys, but more recently on my soil grows, i have watered the full pot with PH'd water, let stand for a while, poked a 3-4mm hole in the soil, dropped my seed in, sprinkled soil over the top, lightly sprayed, put half a coke bottle on the top (lid on) - turn on the lights and walk away for 3 to 5 days. It's never failed.

Just my :2cents: - hope they helped ^_^

The jiffy pellets are in a propagator with the lid on and vents closed. It looks a little dry in the pic but the pellet is still moist and there is condensation on the lid. I was afraid that it was too damp in there yesterday so I wiped up any excess water on the tray to let the pellet dry out a bit. Temps in my tent are about 25c and the propagator is in the corner away from direct light.

I would have potted directly to soil myself but the grow shop was out of light soil mix and I'm afraid of burning the seedlings if i put them straight into the fertilised mix i have. The seed in kitchen towel still hasn't grown though and shouldn't have been exposed to too much heat or light so I'm out of ideas! Hopefully that one seedling will pull through so I'll have some variety come harvest time!

I could get some topsoil from the garden and try the last seed in a cup using that. Would that be worth a shot? Thanks for the help Blue!

hmm, i'm not sure mate, personally i wouldn't because i'm a penny pincher and want to give them seeds the best chance possible. To me that means using a really nice soil (or whatever medium i chose) - all the best advice comes from AFN.

So for me .. I'd keep that seed, wait until you can get some soil you're happy with i've seen great results with plagron light mix (TaNg), Biobizz lightmix (Uncle si) and Canna Terra Soil (Mr Ganjamoto)

I don't understand why your BAM has doen that if the conditions are right... but the direct to (good) soil method might be for you.

Just one last thought .. are you leaving you're water out to gas off (evaporate the chlorine) .. i'm not sure it would do "that" much damage, but i certainly had healthier leaves without the chlorine! - as i say, just an after thought

I don't think I'll be able get any more soil. The shop is closed until Tuesday and I'll be working all week. I'm using plagron growmix. I might try putting the last seed straight into that and see what happens. It doesn't look like it's going to grow any more in the towel anyway!

I'm using rainwater with 20ppm ph'd to about 6.8 that I've bubbled for a day before use. The Irish weather is finally of use to me lol

Yeah, give it a shot then! :)

Maybe PH a little lower - I'll start at 6.2 and swing up through out the grow upto 6.5 in flowering.

Have a cool weekend!
Blue ^_^ :High 5:

My grow kit came with Plagron nutes (power roots, green sensation, pure enzym, terra bloom). The soil is Plagron growmix and has enough fert for 3 weeks. Should I start adding the roots and enzyme or wait until the 3 weeks are up? My AWW plants are about 2 weeks old now.
