First organic grow - blue automazar // afghan kush ryder

Just caught a peek of your BAM at 4 weeks! Looking gorgoeus medi! :)

BAM is "the one that got away" from me! The only seed i've ever failed to germ (and in fairness it was in an early run and DP kindly offered to replace)

You've got me hankering again! :)

Nice!
:Gary:

Thanks Blue, and it's funny you should say that because I had a tough time germing these as well, I ended up getting it on my 3rd try, but with my NL I put two beans to germ and two plants came out, so not sure what that's about. That said the grow itself has been going pretty smoothly though I am having a bit more trouble with her this week. Probably going to elaborate more soon.

Getting my head slowly round tlo. You're lacking N, so the next soil mix will have more in it? Specifically something fast acting, is that right, as you're still in the veg phase?

I am short on N it would appear despite having an abundance of worm castings, a fair bit of feather meal, and fish meal. I've added blood meal and more of the others for the next batch of soil I made around the time I planted these ladies so I'll see where that leaves me. As far as fast vs slow acting that becomes less of an issue the longer you let your soil compost since more becomes bioavailable as the microbes begin breaking it down. At least that's how I understand it from the few books and many many articles, and forum posts I've read over the last year or so. I'm actually considering the possibility that I don't have enough microlife going on despite using a pretty fair bit of ZHO(multiple courses), Happy Frog, and Dr. Earth's. Maybe I need to try new Myco sources, not sure yet but I'll keep trying new things as scientifically as possible until I get just the right variables. I know for a fact I could have given them soup style Biobizz or something and not had these issues but I'm determined to succeed or fail on the merits of my own soil so I'll keep at it.

I tried to sway ya a little different but ya haaad to be different LMFAO!!

Thats the attitude I love to see brother!!Keep it up!

You were right man, I just dislike relying on slaughterhouse byproducts to grow my peace ladies, there's a lot of suffering that occurs in those places, and then there's the sustainability arguments but I digress. I guess if I'm going to be successful for the time being I'm going to have to put my feelings on the subject on a shelf until I can do some more R&D.

Oh i know,i wrestled with that fora long time.Im a straight up Meat Eater dude. But I truly do feel you.Believe me,I think on it often actually. And it would be my truest pleasure to introduce the people to their new selves to stop that.but its sooo large it wont be stopped short of half the nation and the globe stops.and thats not going to happen anytime soon. But I try to buy accordingly but if used just a little and left to blend its great.but if land based is not it.Look seaward man.there are plenty of options open to you if you choose to look and do extra work and harvest and work your products over a few month period with HOT composting and building.

Cheers for the explanation Medi. Getting there slowly, I'm more a learning by doing guy though, which isn't the best approach for tlo. I'm still struggling to source organic stuff, amazon has it, but most cases the postage is higher than the product.

I definitely don't pick my ethical battles based on whether or not they'll change the world, but I know what you mean all the same :-) I'll keep at it, I think you're right that the answer is out in the sea, and that's the direction I've already started going, just going to have to keep trying new combinations. I might try some composted manures as well.

Best approach or not I'm also a learn by doing guy. I basically used Subcool as a template for amounts because there are several smaller batch recipes for his mix, but then I used a lot of The Rev's ideas on what and when and how much, etc. for some of the ingredients, as well as layering. That would be my advice to you is to try to expose yourself to as many ideas on TLO as possible and take from each what you would like to try until you hit upon the best mix for your situation. It may take you longer and there will be pains while you're trying to figure it out, but it'll be yours when it's all done, and you'll have something to be quite proud of.

Week 5

As week 5 comes to a close I find myself comparing this grow to the NL grow and finding these ladies significantly smaller. I'm not too concerned because I started another two to grow(2 X Think Different) that should hopefully finish up about a month and some change after these but I will be sorry to see a small BAM harvest. I may try to fit a straight Blueberry grow into the rotation along with the other few strains I'm planning coming up.

As to the plants themselves the AKR is small but seems to be generally happy. The Blue Automazar on the other hand has started suffering from some Magnesium deficiency so I've given her some Epsom and she appears to be on the mend. I top dressed both the girls with some Dr. Earth's Bloom 8 before watering on Friday to add some new myco as well as give the girls a bit of a boost going into flowering which started earlier in the week. Other than that not a lot going on, I'm still happy enough with how they're doing, and for a first time growing not only organic, but TLO, I really can't complain. Anyway, going to throw up some photos, hope you've all had a good weekend.

Very pretty looking girlies. Any idea why they're turning out small?

Not too sure other than either too little amending, or not enough microbial activity. It's a work in progress and my subsequent attempts should continually improve. Thanks for swinging by!

Dialing it in, no doubt. I realize it takes time to get things just right, and I'm very interested in seeing what you'll be doing by this time next year! Bro, it's a pleasure of mine to stop through. There's always something beneficial going on up in here!
