I started cooking the soil the last week of June and planted the end of last week so it got about 5 weeks to simmer in a closet that sits around 78-81 degrees. I picked up the local soil at the last minute and added it and watered and within an hour I went back to check in on them and there were tiny white insects crawling around on the surface. I'd thought at first they might be baby aphids and panicked. Once I figured out they weren't Aphids I thought they might be springtails, but after watching them for a few days I never saw any of them jump , and they had a more mite shape to them so I dug deeper and found out they were Hypoaspis Miles which it turns out are predaceous so it looks like I have some guardians along for the ride.
The seedlings are nice and green and I've been letting them sip some water every day to keep them nice and happy, I ended up going through a couple of seeds of BAM trying to get them to pop, first the water/paper towel method, and then just paper towels on a plate with water and covered and for whatever reason neither of them popped so I ended up taking the AKR and BAM I had left and soil germing them, which took a bit more time but as you'll see in the pic(barely) it worked, I prefer to soil germinate anyway so I'll probably just stick with that.
It feels good to be growing again, and even better that this will be an incredible learning experience for seeing if I can have a good organic soil without using Bone/Blood meals. I actually have a similar soil to this cooking right now with some Jobes Blood meal and prilled bone meal added in for the next grow as a comparison. Well that's about what I have for now, thanks for reading!!
