Hey, it's my first time growing (anything) and I just have a question about my Auto. It seems to be growing pretty well, it's exactly 34 days old now and is [advertised as] a 9 week strain. I was just wondering if there was anything I needed to do with it at the moment? I'm contemplating trimming some of the leaves but I'm afraid in doing so I might slow its growth or mess it up! Any help/advice would me much appreciated thanks!

My setup is as follows:

1 Plant (at the moment) in a pot of which the size I don't know! I found it lying about the house with no information on it's size (I've uploaded a picture of it for some degree of perspective)

Lighting: 300w Dual Spectrum CFL (Plant kept a few inches away from the bulb)

Food: About a teaspoon or so of Molasses and approx 5 ml Tomorite Tomato food with every water (started this exactly on the 3 week mark)

Medium: Soil. Morrisons Multi Purpose Compost

Again, thanks for any help!

TL:DR: Should I trim the leaves? If so, how much?

1) You blew my mind going from pic 3 to pic 4, I thought, "HOLY CRAP PERSPECTIVE IS A BITCH!!!!"

2) Don't trim anything unless you're running a much larger auto...larger/longer growing plants have more time to recover from pruning and do better, but it looks like yours is stout in nature.

3) What is the pH of the water you're pouring into the plant? What is the pH out? What is the light cycle she's on? How often are you watering? Those would be the initial questions I'd ask, because she looks oddly stout and busy...not unhealthy, but kinda bizarre honestly.

Hey man welcome to the forum, she looks great. I only know of one place to get Devon Maid unless im mistaken props on the find hah. Don't trim any of the leaves for an auto itll stunt it to much. Keep up the good work man she'll reward you sooner than later.:smokebuds:

I know right, I have a pretty good picture log of the whole process and it's mental looking through the timeline!

Thanks that's good to know! So I'll just continue to keep it pure and simple

1 - What is the pH of the water you're pouring into the plant?
2 - What is the pH out?
3 - What is the light cycle she's on?

1 - The PH is around 7, I wanna try and keep costs as low as possible so I don't wanna buy any PH down type products. I also wanna try and keep it as "natural" as possible. Not because I'm particularly into organic grows, but just because it will give me a good idea of how much difference chemical products/more products actually makes to yield. I figure doing it this way will allow me to actually know if all the extra products (when I buy them) and if they do, how much?
2 - The PH Out the last time I checked was around 7.4
3 - I'm on a 24/0 schedule, again, it's to see the yield so I can compare later grows and because I hear with CFL's, the bulbs last longer if they're just kept on permanently
4 - I'm watering pretty much whenever I feel it needs it. I'm using a combination of the weight method (checking how heavy the pot feels) along with pushing my finger through the side of the pot to see how dry the soil is. I give it just about enough water that there's some slight run off.
5 - Do you think that's maybe due to the fact that I transplanted the plant at 19 days?

Also, in response to "mclovin478910" Yes dude! SR! Ironically, since I started smoking (I'm 24 and started in May) I've never actually had any face to face dealings with any dealers!

Oh and thanks for all your help!

Vinager is a good ph down. Little goes a long way. A reading of 7.4 with 7.0 going in points to a higher soil ph level. So nute lock out could be happening. And yes the transplant could also have an affect.

The dates of the photos show pic number 4 is from July 8, whereas 1 to 3 are July 23. The perspective had me going for a minute, but it was too crazy. :-)

The plant looks nice and healthy, lightning1110. pH out is too high though. What's the pH of the water? It needn't be expensive to pH down as you can use a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar to adjust. :peace:

The Water PH is 7.0 and I just checked the run off again and it read 6.7, that should be ok right? Thanks for the tip of the Lemon Juice though! Would I just add a few drops to the water if I needed to get the PH down?

Hi Lightning - a belated welcome mate :)

This should help you figure out your soil PH (by GoAuto6)

Rough Calculation Guide:

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

So .. by my calculation that makes your soil PH (the important bit) 6.4

Ideally you could get it closer to 6.5 (see the nute uptake chart below (the right hand side is for soil))

And yeah, just put a few drops of lemon juice in the water and test again.

Here's a guide for nutirent uptake in soil

Hope this help a little

All the best
