Indoor First time grow - Pakistan Ryder and DinaFem Fruit Auto

OK, back again with some updates as things are finally rolling here. Hopefully I'm getting all my problems out of the way early on, and it'll be smooth sailing in the future. As of my last update on 6/14, the PakRyder had sprouted quickly after being planted in soil. Unfortunately, the seed shell was clamped on tight and showed no signs of budging. I did some reading and the standard advice seems to be to lightly mist it and leave it alone to shed the seed by itself. Well, two days passed, and the shell hadn't budged & I could see mangled edges of the cotyledons sticking out from underneath. I figured surgery was the only option, and after quite a bit of work with some tweezers I broke the shell off. One cotyledon was already dead and the other was in bad shape. In hindsight I wish I'd helped it along a day sooner, but this grow is meant to be a learning experience anyway. On the positive side, a tiny set of first set of leaves had also popped out, so I figured I'd give her a shot and see if she could make it. Four days later, and she's recovered quite well as seen below:

As for the LR2, it sprouted on the 17th and I promptly killed it the next day by beheading it with the plug from my fan. Note to self: TAKE THE PLANTS OUT OF THE BOX BEFORE SCREWING AROUND WITH THE DAMN WIRING!!!. Since I've got room for two plants and I want them on the same schedule as much as possible, I quickly germed another seed. Feeling like the LR2 was cursed for me, I instead went with the ubiquitous DinaFem Fruit Automatic. It seems like everybody who's ever ordered from Nirvana has these freebies hanging around, but there aren't a whole lot of grow journals about them. I was pleasantly surprised with how vigorous this seed was. Less than 2 days after placing it in a wet paper towel, it had germed, been planted, sprouted, and shed the shell. These pics are approximately 36 hours since it broke ground:

Unfortunately I now have read that the Fruit can grow up to 3 feet tall, so I may be forced to LST this one due to my height limitations. I've got both plants in plastic cups right now with plans to use FD's tiered planting method, so I might put the Fruit into a really small pot in hopes of keeping it small.

Both plants are now around 2-3" from 4 42w 6500k CFLs and seem to be quite happy. The only issue is that with the brutal heat wave we're having, my basement area is warming and temps in the box sometimes push up into the upper 80s. But I've got a fan on the plants and the box is well ventilated, and for now they're doing OK with it. I really have no way of lowering the ambient temps outside my box anyway, so part of this grow will be an experiment in how well they can take the heat. I decided on a 18-6 cycle so I could shut the lights off during the hottest daytime hours, and that seems to help a bit. Humidity stays around 50% so I'm not concerned with that right now. Now it's time to just sit back and leave them alone until they tell me they need something. :smoke:

sweet as they look fine
goodluck bro :)

Things are looking good man glad to see you have things in order here.

I will tell you that the DinaFem stock is pretty nice. I germed a Blue Hash from them and i soil germed it, 24hrs later i had a sprout above the dirt
seems they breed a good stock and they are really eager to grow. Speed and safety with them.

im going to keep an eye on this because pakistan ryder is put up waiting to be germed for my next run

Hey man I I just successfully germed 4 out of 5 pakistan ryders and popped the soil today!! I have 2-100w cfls on 3 solo cups and lightly misting.. I hope I don't encounter the same issue with the shell!! I will be keeping a close read on your grow and as well I will start a journal later on today.. wish yah luck and great virtues with your grow their..

Pakistan Ryder from WOS is an excellent strain...my first grow with it was great ansd induced a try of all the WOS autos....with a sweet coffee, sugar mango and afghan kust ryders all 2 weeks from harvest...and looking great!. The coffee has an amazing 'growing' aroma....

Good luck with them! I'm sure the shell issue was just bad luck and had nothing to do with the PR. It definitely stunted mine a bit, and growing with only 1 cotyledon sure didn't help either. But she's hanging in there.

I see we have similar set-ups, we both grow in cabinets with CFLs. I will have to sub and see how well you can make it work. Like FD my experience with Dinafem was a positive one.

highya Andy....nice to see you playing in the dirt! seems like everytime i turn around
im buying another bail of dirt to play in...hehehe....IM NOT COMPLAINING!.....

Thanks for stopping by! I'll have an update with some pics later tonight or tomorrow. Not much to see yet as they're still babies, but I did FD's tiered transplant method yesterday so there's a little something to talk about.

Still fighting the heat just like you are teflon. After a break the last few days, it's supposed to be back to triple digits for the rest of the week. :cuss:
