Time for the final grow update, as the girls were chopped this morning. The trichs on both were almost all cloudy/amber, and after seeing no noticeable development of the buds in the past few days, I pulled the trigger. I had planned on giving them a final watering right before chop, but they seemed to have slowed down their drinking lately. I'd been watering every two days for weeks, but 3 days after the last watering the soil was still damp halfway down the pot. Almost all fan leaves had gone yellow or completely dead, and some of the sugar leaves on the main cola were turning crispy, so all signs pointed to harvest. From the day the seeds cracked until chop was 63 days for the PR and 59 days for the Fruit.
Considering some of the early troubles I had, I'm very happy with the yield. The main cola and side buds are quite dense when squeezed, and even the fluffier lower buds are completely frosted and should be a great smoke. I was chatting with Ripster about the smell of these girls, and I think I finally put my finger on the DinaFem Fruit. It's always had a citrusy aroma, but as it matured it's developed a somewhat alcoholic pungency. Catching a whiff of it makes you think of a screwdriver with a dash of grapefruit juice or some other kind of tropical drink. It really overpowered the Pakistan Ryder's smell while in the cabinet, but I was able to get more of a sense of the PR aroma while trimming. It's definitely got a woody, cedar type smell to it. But it's recently picked up sort of a dark fruit smell like raisins or dried cherries. Very nice and strong but not an acrid skunky scent at all. I can't wait to see how they develop during curing. They're drying in my cabinet with humidity at 55-60 and temps in the low 70s. Hopefully in a week or less I'll have the buds in jars. :dance2:
By the way I did smoke the popcorn bud I took off the Fruit last week, and I was very happy with the potency. Nice balanced stone that lasted 1-1.5 hours before slowly mellowing out. I've also continued trying the PR bud from a few weeks back and it's only gotten better with age. I'll have a full smoke report on both of these in the coming weeks. :smoke:
