You're off to a great start really. As for the pots and when to water, that just takes time and experience. There's a couple tricks for when they're seedlings: if you can get a pack of the clear party cups, you can put 1 upside down over each seedling for the first week or so, this keeps them humid and protects a bit if you have strong lights. You'll notice the soil underneath the little cup dome stays more moist. (I wouldn't use glass cups though, that could accidentally magnify the light and burn em). I think yours are past the cup dome point though.
As for pots, yeah it just takes time to figure out when they need water. Overwatering is easy to do though, and canna needs dry periods (in soil) so the roots go hunting

Next time when making your pots, try to fill em up to the top but make like a bowl, so the sides are kinda built up an inch (couple centimeters) higher than the middle. This helps against water running right out the sides, especially in fabric pots.
