Hello All,
I have recently been asked by a freind of mine who sadly has cancer, to look into making some cannabis oil. So upon doing a google search i quickly came across this 'Rick Simpson Oil (or RSO)' and i thought id share a little bit of info i gleamed from my research on it.
I hope this info helps a few people.....
What is it and Who is Rick Simpson?-
Here is a link that breifly explains his story and the history of RSO. its a good read- http://www.hightimes.com/read/rick-simpsons-hemp-oil-medicine
So now you know what it is, you're probably pondering a few things, like i was as soon as i read that article, which led me to write this post.
Rick determined that a gram of oil per day was the nessesary dose and to be maintained for 60 days
source- "Simpson kept treating patients until they got better, but he soon determined that a 60-gram treatment was necessary for serious illnesses. The oil is eaten as quickly as possible, starting with small doses until a resistance is established. Eating a gram of cannabis oil a day can be disorienting, but many adapt rapidly to the pharmacological effects."
So to make the 60g batch one needs a pound of dry bud. a pound is roughly 454grams.
which means 454g/60 = 7.5 That means in each gram of finished RSO has the resin and therefore all the psycoactive cannabinoids from 7.5g of bud.
This is the daily dose. Lets just assume that a hardened toker makes about 2 joints from a gram them this means that the daily dose would be the equvalent of smoking 15 j's a day! maybe you make 3 j's from a gram? then its the equivalent to 23 joints a day!! however you cut it, thats a lot.
im not saying this is a bad thing at all. i just was curious so did the maths and thought others might be curious aswell.
Another thing i was curious about was how much oil you get from your pound of bud. rick says you get 60 grams on average, i did a bit of maths and 60g is what you can expect if your working with a start material that has 13% THC (or more truthfully 13% 'resin')
454/100 =4.54 x 13 =59.02g if your working with 20% start material you can expect 90grams of oil- 4.54 x 20 = 90.8g
