Mephisto Genetics Germ twice as many, cull half, question

Coco better then peat it’s mostly made of scrap from the coconut industry. Peat is harvested from century old peat bogs and is most likely not good for the environment. I try to impact the environment as little as possible with my hobby self grow. I reuse the coco till I feel like going new and the old goes into my raised garden beds at the end of the year.

The thing with Coco is that it is Hydro with a medium. Adding stuff like Biochar and peat makes it worse draining. I am not saying you will like Coco better than Peat. But if you try it again, don't add Peat or Biochar. Perlite or Pebbles are fine, they are inert and help drainage. Good luck

yes, I'm already thinking about the next substrate I'll go with. If I do 8 pots I might do 4 in a coco/perlite mix only and the other 4 in HP promix only. And see how I like each.

Btw I finally ditched the rapid rooters for germinating. I get much better results with the paper towels method. Two days later I get tap roots almost 100% rate, then I put them in the clear solo cups with HP promix. And way, way less watering in the cups. And I drilled a lot of holes in the cups to let air in. I'll see if I can get a picture posted of the nursery I have going with 15 seedlings in clear cups.

That would be pretty much Impossible to overwater. I don't use large pots, and Coco is Airy enough by itself...but a 60/40 mix would be a great idea for larger pots. Coco/Perlite 50/50 actually doesn't dry out as much as you think. I actually like it, because it drains better and does require a little more frequent watering...which I prefer.
Spot on mate and you are exactly right when I used coco/perlite 50/50 I was surprised at much more fluid it held considering all the perlite added, I'm sure i over watered once or twice on that run which says it all really. Same goes for smaller pots like you say, anything under 10ltr and I would want something that held more moisture than the 60/40 I use now.
