hey guys i was wondering if i could get a few tips on germinating straight into the soil. :toke:

i use the paper towel method in a warm dark place and i honestly never had one not germ in less than 48 hours, and thats with roughly 15-20 seeds so far. :cough:

like i said they ALWAYS germ but its the moving them from the wet paper towel into the pot with tweezers that i hate! ive dropped more than a few on the ground while transferring them and just feel like putting them straight into soil will eliminate those issues and reduce the risk of stressing from actually dropping the baby lol :D

So...if your putting seed straight into the soil to germ, do you always pre soak in a cup of water?

..are yall getting good germ rates from sticking seed straight into soil?

i wanna try this method because it sounds safer and a lil easier but wanna do it right any advice? :smokebuds: thanks AFN!

Just put your medium into a red cup or whatever you are using and get it wet use a tooth pick or whatever you got and make a small hole about a 1/4 inch down and drop her in and in about 3 days give or take you should see some green.

But not all seeds are the same for instance Tom Hill says to give his Pure Haze seeds up to 10 days before you should be worried.

I have used the paper towel way and it seems you screw around with the shells not coming off and that is why I like just dropping them in the soil because as they come up it usually strips off the shell and casing.

My overall best way % germed is using peat pellets. I soak them with distilled water and when soft I squeeze out the extra water use a toothpick and drop them in and place on heating mat. Three days later or so you should be seeing some green if you do not in 5 carefully dig into the peat pellet and see if it germed and if not fish it out and see if it is hard if hard put in a new pellet and if soft toss it.

thanks man, if im germing in the soil should my cup or jiffy pots be under my light in my tent or still in a cool dark place light you would doing the paper towel method?

i usually just germ my beans in cool dark place, when they crack then the go in the soil under my lights :smokebuds:

I got 2 cents for ya if your interested fweedom! First a warm dark place is a seeds best friend-not a cool dark place! I've tried germinatin every way known with moderate success and have settled on the straight into dirt method. What I do first is rough the edges with a file and then they go directly into jiffy seedstarter mix in my humidity dome.Seed starter mix is moistened with distilled water.I have a heat mat under the humidity dome and I use no lights until they pop outta dirt.Fastest time has been 25 hours and slowest has been 4 days with average of 36 hours.Hope that helps!

My latest way to germ seeds is to use root riot cubes.

they are like rockwool but organic the seeds germ in them then I just plant the whole cue once they are above ground/cube similar method to the peat pellets but the cubes are infused with root stimulant so far its been working wonders and no dropped seedlings

yea i dont know why i put cool dark place for germing, i meant warm :face:

but what do you mean by you rough the edges with a file lol :smokebuds:

I hit both edges of the seed with a file just to scuff it up some-it seems to help the seed crack open better.I had 1 particular hard batch of f1 seeds that seemed like they didn't want to let the taproot free so I started filing the edges and it worked great-borrowed that idea from brotha STUNTED-he likes his chainsaw file lol!

I do the filing thing too but in a different way.

I line a matchbox with sandpaper put the seed in it close and give it a good shake just like filing it helps the stubborn seeds germ easier

just my two cents

well let me ask..do you guys think im even stunting or in any way harming the seed when after the taproot emerges in the paper towel i pick it up with tweezers then drop it into the soil and gently cover? :toke:

i guess the thought of not having to pick up and move the fragile sprouted seed with tweezers and having it already in the pot makes me not worry about stunting it while picking it up, but is any damage going on anyway with the way im doing it or am i just over thinking it?

Fill party cup with coco to 3/4 full, wet till thoroughly saturated, drop bean on top of coco, fill cup with DRY coco to the top. Cover with plastic bag and use rubber band to hold on. It will steam up inside and moisten the seed/media without getting it too wet or drowning it. Once you see it pop its head, take the plastic off for good and you're off to the races. You can also do this organically for a soil grow using FFLW or SS#4...same idea, but instead of topping it off with dry media, use a handful of the smaller sized perlite. Start feeding tea/organic ferts at day 10 or whenever you perceive it needs some N.
