Indoor germinating without stressing.

When I took a small gardening class for working in a nursery many many moons ago I recall them saying that the ever so fine hairs on each strand of root including tap roots,if damaged can stunt/shock or even kill if disturbed enough.I have no clue if that applies to Herbal Seed roots..I'd think to a degree but dunno.and thats why I personally never use paper towels.prolly the only reason.cuz I suck at growing i try to avoid any chance of jackin stuff up.LOL!:wiz:
tweezers and lightly cover I doubt your gonna do any real damage to the hairs though bro.

I noticed about a 1 day delay getting sprouts out of my medium when I was germing in Paper Towels. When I went to straight media, I got about 12 hours of growth back and haven't had a single failure in over a dozen seeds.

Fill party cup with coco to 3/4 full, wet till thoroughly saturated, drop bean on top of coco, fill cup with DRY coco to the top. Cover with plastic bag and use rubber band to hold on. It will steam up inside and moisten the seed/media without getting it too wet or drowning it. Once you see it pop its head, take the plastic off for good and you're off to the races. You can also do this organically for a soil grow using FFLW or SS#4...same idea, but instead of topping it off with dry media, use a handful of the smaller sized perlite. Start feeding tea/organic ferts at day 10 or whenever you perceive it needs some N.

id be using light warrior as starter mix, i have no perlite so you think i could just fill the party cup with LW and bury about a half inch after they soak overnite :smokebuds:

Yeah, you can def. use LW just make sure it's nice and loose...no problem. I just did that in fact for my current grow...gonna do a mini TLO setup and my DP Strawberry Cough popped 48 hours after putting her in completely dry and unsoaked. The key is to get the temps in your grow space warm so the water moves around and evaporates inside the little tent you make with the bag...

yea i think the same thing applies to the roots man i think they get the lil hairs on them, i try to take them out when the tap root barely comes out so the hairs dont start attaching to the paper towel, and im sure to grab by the seed not the root with the tweezers so hopefully no harm is done :smokebuds:

so you didnt soak the seed you just ...

put the light warrior in a party cup, got the soil moist, then put the seed in about half inch deep, then put something over as a humidity dome then into a warm spot?

do you wait till it broke soil until you put under your lights or in dark until they break? :smokebuds:

Just gonna add in what I do with nearly 99% rates.

Take your container.
Fill all the way with your starter mix.
Water entirely.
Wait at least a few hours preferably the next day or 2 days with larger containers.
Take your dry bean and place it in the center of the mix.
Lightly press down under the surface about 3x the width/length of the bean.
Lightly cover with a bit more mix and keep damp.
With or without a humidity dome, I like and use them most of the time.

Also, after I plant them I put them straight into the tent on 20/4 hours of light with all the others since I usually have several plants at different ages. After about 3-4 days I have life. :D And this way they have light as soon as they come up.

I use a 125w cool spectrum CFL for both seedling light and heat. I put the bulb right next to the lip of the cup, and my bulb is in one of those clamp-on construction reflectors that I spray painted matte white.

here's a picture...once I get the cup setup like this, I put a plastic grocery store veggie bag over the top and pull it down so the stick is keeping it held open, then I put a rubberband around the mouth of the cup to create a humidity dome. This has literally worked every single time (using known genetics of course, not bag seed or sketchy knockoff strains).

I am guess I am just old and have a lot of patience but I just stick the seed about 1/2 down or so with the point down and then water them and stick a little soda bottle I cut up for a humidity dome on top and wait 3 or 4 days and they pop up. I have tried peat pellets and didnt like them and I think the paper towel thing can stress them out some at time. So in review

Plant
Water
Cover
wait

I have a really good germ rate and have no complaints with this simple easy method. I typically use some type of soiless mix like sushine mix #4 or Humbolt county soiless and they are great for seedlings and full size plants.
