I have had gnats 1 time before and I just put some sand in top of bucket and it solved my problem. Well I have gnats again and problem is I'm using airpots so the sand won't work. What else can I do? There nOt hurting plants yet but I know it matter of time before they start destroying my roots

Mosquito Dunks break up small pieces and dissolve in your water, And a sticky flytrap strip mouted near the top lip of the pot where they hang out.

No sweat you can get rid of them quick.

:peace:

The yellow sticky fly traps work awesome!!

I have them i my airpots and they collected them until they are almost gone!

They are FUCKERS! Especially in air pots... I've used the crumbled mosquito dunks to amend the soil, hung a no pest strip in the immediate area, four days its been hanging... As soon as the air pot is disturb they come flying out of the sides! So I'm in the same boat buddy and just dealing with them...: having very good success with the yellow sticky traps its like a light to a moth....they sell the stickies on small stakes you could put right Into the pot... Thinking of ordering some off amazon...

A soil insecticide is indicated for inorganic growers. I use Soil and Turf Insect Control Concentrate (permethrin) from Ace Hardware.
I believe organic is Bacillus Thuringienis

A 1500 Watt hairdryer aimed at adults will kill them. While not fesable for large areas,it can be effective in small growing spaces and head off an infestation.

Bacterial solutions, predator nematodes, nocturnal soils mites and a parasidic wasp. All of these are benign to human AND pets.

Rove Beetle;Soil dwelling insect that does quite well for fungus gnats if pray is abundant.Produces fast and well.Assuming the pray is there.

Hunbter Fly or Tiger Fly:
Controls maggots and adults.

Nematodes:

Predatory mite:

Parasidic Wasp:

Pesticides and fungicides:
Cimmamon oil and Tea:
Cinnamon oil serves as a repellant for multiple persts including fungus gnats. Also works well in combination with other herbal or planyt oils that function as repellants,Including corianderoil,Neem oil, sesame oil,and blend oils or horticultural oils such as ed rosenthals zero tolerance.

Peppermint tea:
Peppermint tea(STRONG) kills fungus gnats as well as larve too.

Pyrethrum:
Sprays kill adults and can be used as a drench to kill larve in the soil.

the easiest way:

Use Vectobac Gnatrol, and Bactimos. All contain Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis. This strain of BT controls the maggots, unfortunatley its only avaliable in gallon jugs. Most garden centers wont have it yet check your local Hydroponic stores..Neen oils and insecticidal soaps as a soil drench.

Thanks for all the help as usual. I have several yellow stickies and there catching a lot of them that why I got nervous. The plants are healthy, but I seen the damage done when they attack the roots or I guess the larva is what eats them. Sand was my only trick. I do have a few ladybugs but that it for the predators. There great for mites but not gnats. How do I make peppermint tea? Or should will the stickies keep them at bay. Have 4 in 4x4

I would personally use the the pyrethrum as a soil drench if its a flatout infestation brother. As far as the tea goes 12 oz. of water and two standard Herbal peppermint Natural tea and let it step and COOL off for about 7-10 minutes or until you can smell it at several inches away quite strong.and use that.Thats how ed rosenthal said to do it.No specific dosage though, sorry bro, thats how I would apply it but Im faaar from a pro brother.Best of luck to you.I would go with neem oil and insecticidal soap as a drench.Or nematodes if its bad though. If cost it the issue go grab a box of some decent pepermint tea thats all natural and herbal happy bro n brew it storng to your taste.

Oh and you may wanna make sure you brew many ounces to coinside with the size of your pot.So adjust accordingly brother.Be well.

You have the fly traps. Get the mosquito dunks... those two things as well as letting your pots dry out properly will ward off or at least hamper the infestation enough so that it's not problematic. Dunks are a sure kill.

Where are you located? Across the pond I know they have a different name.

If you get bored and high, grab the hair dryer or a heat gun.. it is pretty entertaining to zap them, I won't lie.. I sat there with a shrink wrap gun one time shooting them when I became annoyed.. they die pretty fast.
