Lighting Grow Diary. Three Afghan Kush Ryder and one Critical Cheese.

20cm was too close, plant leaves started curling so gone to 30cm and they seem happier at that distance.

DAY 14 of Afghan Kush Ryder under LED ...

Hallo people of the pot !

For the first week of a seedlings life, i normally just spray the surface of the soil with water and give it it's first watering when the pot dries enough.

Because these pots are a litre larger and the LED gives off less heat than the CFL the pots have taken thirteen days to dry out !

Yesterday they had their first feed of :

0.25ml/L of biosilicon : Plant Magic Bio-Silicon | Promoting Healthy Plant Growth

0.5ml/L of grow nutes : Plant Magic Plus Soil Grow | Plant Magic Plus Soil Bloom | Promoting Healthy Plant Growth

They each drank 750ml.

Average height of the AKR's has gone up by 2.5cm over the last week bringing it to 8.75cm.

The cheese has gone up by 2cm to 8cm. The cheese has some light burn where water droplets gathered and magnified the rays.

Girls are doing good :)

Day 19 AKR, day 16 Critical Cheese ...

Thanks mod for moving my thread :)

All the girls are doing well, will post proper photos on Thursday as this diary is weekly, just a quick update today because the carbon filter has been installed, they started getting pretty smelly on day 14 !

Can't believe how well the CC is doing even though she is three days behind, some large leaves already.

Proper photos Thursday, quick video just now :

Adjusting the Prasaka light hanging system.

Hi, the only fault i can find with this Prakasa LED is the light hanging system - it's not designed to be adjustable, which is why i have my girls on a shelf and bracket system to enable easy plant-height changing :

boxshot2.jpg

The light has four brass hole-mounts, one on each corner, and you are given four strong, plastic wires with metal clips that go through the hole-mounts :

latch.jpg

At the hanging end the wire is looped and held in place with a metal pressed stud :

I wanted the light as high as possible so that all i needed to do is move the plant shelf, so i bought two steel bars so that i could do away with the hangers and jsut slide the bars through the hole mounts and into holes drilled into the cabinet sides.

Unfortunately, the hole mounts are only 4mm in diameter, so i bought 3mm steel rod and it's just too bendy to support the weight of the light :

For the moment i've settled with tying a few knots in the wires to shorten them slightly :

CC (Check the crazy leaves on her !):

CC side day 21.jpgCC top day 21.jpg

The CC is three days behind but already she is the same height as the AKR's, they are all 15cm (6 inches). You can see the inter-nodal spacing on the CC is longer so i'm sure she will be the leggy one.

The plants were all around 8cm on day 14 so they have double their height this week. They are all swallowing a litre of water with 1ml of grow and 0.25ml of biosilicon per L.

I'm really pleased with this Prakasa LED so far, it's easily as good as my old CFL, which was 250 watts (the Prakasa is 120), can't wait to see what the buds are like.

Normal light photos ...

A couple of quick photos under normal light.

The Critical Cheese is the one in the lower-right of the photos, can't believe how fast she is growing, especially considering the fact she is three days behind the AKR sisters !

Cheers epenguin, it was getting a bit lonely here ;+} Do you have a diary on the go ?

Yeah the light is easily as good as my old 250W CFL so i'm well happy so far, just have to see what the buds are like after drying/curing.

Thanks for looking in,

Steely.

Day 28.

So the girls are now a month old. I'm a bit worried about some rust-spotting and thinking that the water may be too acidic in the area i've just moved to.

I know that my water company puts chloramine in the water instead of chlorine (chloramine is chlorine with added ammonia). You can actually smell it when you pour a glass and when you have a bath. I had the water company come and check it but they only tested for chlorine not ammonia.

I think the acidity of the water and the ammonia is causing Mg lockout but we'll see, i'm going to feed them Highland Spring bottled water and see if the yellow spots get worse or stabilise.

Some pics from this morning, the Afghan Kush Ryder Brigade.

All together :

The AKR's are now 24cm tall, that's an increase of 9cm since last week.

The CC is now 30cm tall, that's an increase of 15cm since last week !
