I mixed up some soil 3-4 months ago to let it cook with a cover crop and put it outside until I was ready to pop a seed. Well the time has come to pop that seed so I went to test the soil but found grubs. Do I need to get rid of them? I How do I get rid of them without killing off everything else? Thanks in advance

Nematodes or milky spores are your best organic option. There are chemical sprays and pesticides that work as well, but mau not be safe..

Can you post a picture of them
Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the 2 I removed yesterday and I couldn't find any right now without completely disturbing my soil which is loaded with baby mushrooms currently. From my recollection the grubs were relatively small. Maybe 3/8 -1/2 inch long

Grubs obviously live in soil. But do they do anything negative, undesirable, to our plants? Or is their moving around and presumably eating/digesting/excreting organic material beneficial to the soil?

I haven't had any insect in soil/media problems, but if I did and it was very early, I'd dose, do drain-to-waste, with an appropriate amount of pyrethrin, Spinosad or other organic-like, known biodegrading insecticide.

As long as there are not heaps of them things should be ok . They will be eating the organic matter in the soil , it is when they run out of organic matter , then they become a issue as they will start to eat the roots of the plant . . Using Neem as a organic soil drench will help .
