Indoor "Guerrilla_in_the_mist's Foggy Chronicles"

Awesome, AB - she's a beauty - thank you for the photos!

Grass clippings - who'd of thunk it? Certainly not me - ha ha!
I'm home from work in a little less than a week - I may just try to source your tea ingredients and mix up a batch - thank you for the sage advice, I appreciate it.

I've been away from home for a little better than two weeks, now - and the last update I received from my Lady about my lady - was that she was doing very well - but when she went up to water today, she found there had been a sudden resurgence of the fungus gnats (damn the gnats!).

She put up a fly-paper strip - but if they're still there when I get home, I believe I'll try the diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide (unless anyone had a less drastic solution? Or is it just my perception that its a bit drastic?).

Anyway - there will be a photo update on Wednesday.

Thank you again for the photos, AB - I hope this little lady becomes half the plant that yours has!

And about half your plant is what she seems as though she will become, AB - ha ha!

I returned home from three weeks at work - to find her healthy and happy - but she is a wee one!

The weather turned cool, while I was away - and the heat in the attic was set fairly low - so while she has been warm during the day while the T5 above her was on, the temp was dropping into the mid 60'sF at night - which may have contributed to her smaller stature? Wish I'd had the foresight to run her light schedule so it was on through the night - but hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?

The heat has been turned up, now - so we'll see if that makes any difference.

The gnats have disappeared - though I had rethunk my strategy in that regard, once I read that hydrogen-peroxide would kill the beneficial microbes in my carefully mixed organic soil!
I had decided to top the soil with an inch of sand, had there still been gnats in evidence - but perhaps the cooler nights had an effect on them, as there is nary a one to be seen.

Anyway - a few photos of the little lady after I applied a little LST...

Day 38

IMG_9144.jpgIMG_9152.jpgIMG_9153.jpgIMG_9155.jpgIMG_9161.jpg

I also paid a visit to my "Guerrilla Garden" - such as it is - ha ha! My intention was to produce some seeds of a cross a friend came up with (Trail Blazer) - as she lost all her breeding stock in a forest fire, last summer.

Unfortunately - crappy miracle grow soil, deer, slugs, inattention due to my work schedule and somewhat extreme summer weather - all conspired to ensure a small and waaaaay behind schedule garden (last year I harvested four females in late September - this year only one female and two males survived - and the male flowers still haven't opened!).

I'm pushing the mold envelope quite a bit - but we have sun in the forecast for the next few days - so I'll leave the lone female until the next rain front pushes in - then take her ready or not.

Calling these "popcorn buds" is exaggerating them some - but they do smell deliciously!

IMG_9115.jpgIMG_9133.jpgIMG_9136.jpgIMG_9137.jpg

Next spring I'll be planting Think Different and Arjan's Haze #3 (photo) into an organic soil mix - to see what they will do. They will still need to endure three week stretches without attention - but I think starting off with a good soil will make a difference in production (or - thats my hope, anyway!).

I share my garden with a big black bear - he/she must be 4 or 5 years old now, and leaves scratches nearly 12' up a tree adjacent to my grow. I though by this time of year he/she may have wandered off to one of the salmon producing rivers in the area - but instead he/she seems to have hung about to finish off the rose-hips (wild) growing on the edge of the clearing. My dogs told me he/she had recently visited my garden - and I've seen him/her watching me from the trees as I boony-bashed through the bush, a time or two.
Pretty handy - and cheap - security - ha ha!

IMG_9125.jpg

I wondered if part of the Berry Ryder's difficulties (for those that didn't see that thread - it was culled at 110 days, as it never really went into flower) might have been a lack of light (although I looked through plenty of journals that showed very good results running T5 HO all the way through).

I decided to supplement the T5 HO I was running with a couple of low budget LED spots.

IMG_9196.jpg

I purchased from the manufacturer - and the tech sheet on them says they are 57W (although I very much doubt they are running at that - lower would be my guess) - running 18 Epistar 3W LEDs - 12 red (6 @ 660nm and 6 @ 630nm), and 6 blue (3 @ 460nm and 3 @ 430nm) - 60 degree lenses.

I'm not sure how valid any of that is - you kinda have to take the seller's word when purchasing across that kind of distance - ha ha!

I set them up to shine in from the sides along the axis of the Hobbit, as I've laid her down with LST. Initially I set them at about 12'' - after two 18 hour light cycles with no damage to the little lady, I re-set them to ~8''.

IMG_9191.jpg

They've been in place through 3 additional 18 hour cycles - and the change in the bud density, circumference and size has been observable - while she has remained green, evenly colored and healthy looking.

She is still small - there has been only minimal increase in length in any of her growing tips - but her buds are coming along nicely, though I'm too new at recognizing the various stages (more precisely - in knowing how much more time remains to her, and how much more she will increase in size) to know if she'll produce much, overall.

Taking into consideration the cost-effectiveness of the two bulbs - I'd say, at this point, that they have been a worthwhile addition already - though I'd like to point out that I have no previous experience to compare against.

Day 43
IMG_9178.jpgIMG_9186.jpgIMG_9183.jpgIMG_9198.jpgIMG_9199.jpg

Five days ago, I dropped a Bubbleicious (Nirvana) seed into a glass of water - it sank within 24 hours - was transferred to wet paper towel in a lock-n-lock container set on my router - sprouted a 2'' root within 24 hours - was transferred to a peat pellet in a humidity dome and placed under another T5 HO (no supplemental LED) - was above ground in 24 hours - and was transferred into her "home pot" - containing an organic mix which had been cooking for a month.

She is two days above ground, now - and looks to be off to a good start.

IMG_9202.jpgIMG_9205.jpg

Thanks for checking in!

Hidden away by the lower fan leaves, the Wee Hobbit sent out a male flower from the lower main stem. I didn't notice it until after it had opened and shed a fair bit of pollen onto the stem below it - however, I believe the same fan leaves that hid it from my view, also kept the fan from distributing the majority of it's payload.

To this point, theres no evidence of seed production - but I'll keep a closer eye on it, going forward.

No harm - no fowl, though - the only other lady I have on the go is only 10 days above ground, at this point.

Otherwise things are developing a-pace. Her buds aren't very large - but they're very dense - and are continuing to fatten up and produce some frost - though she remains virtually odor-free, unless one gets their nose right in close.

I was having some issues with temperature stability in my attic - the daytime temps were good, hovering in the high 70's - but the nighttime temps were dropping out of the comfort range.
I purchased a bale of insulation, and insulated between the 2x6's of the roof joists - and that seems to have done the trick.

The night before I insulated the roof - the outside nighttime low was 43F, and the attic's "lowest recorded" dropped to 62F.

Te night after I insulated - the outside low went down to 32F - while the attic remained a balmy 74F, and that after I had turned down the small, portable hot-oil radiator I keep up there.
That should keep future grows happy through our colder months!

The only other change I made was to switch out the four 6500K T5 HO bulbs for 2800K bulbs.

On to the photos:

DAY 51

IMG_9226.jpgIMG_9227.jpgIMG_9231.jpgIMG_9233.jpgIMG_9235.jpgIMG_9238.jpgIMG_9244.jpgIMG_9249.jpg

The Wee Hobbit is showing the first signs of cal/mag deficiencies (a few "rust spots" on her older fan leaves) - so her next drink will include a feeding of General Organics Ca/Mg+ at half dose.
IMG_9241.jpg
I have included three drops (!) of General Organics Bio Bud in her last two waterings - but other than that she has been given no supplemental nutrients through the grow.

The Wee Hobbit's neighbor - a Bubbleicious from Nirvana - had her first double digit birthday, today.

DAY 10
IMG_9247.jpgIMG_9248.jpg

I hope the Fall season has been as glorious where you are, as it has been here. My daily 10km dog walks through the woods, have been glorious - this last couple of weeks. And - as I'm finding - an Iolite vaporizer makes a fair hand warmer as it cools down after a session!
IMG_9206.jpg

As always - thanks for checking in!

Would I be correct in believing these to be developing seeds?

IMG_9265.jpgIMG_9275.jpg

I fed her a tea of high P guano, her last watering - and three of these popped out within a couple of days!

Assuming these are seeds - would there be any down-side in growing them out, sometime down the road (bearing in mind that there will be only one lady at a time in flower, and no attempts at furthering a breeding line of any sort).
I have a bit of a grow line-up for the foreseeable - but perhaps next year sometime, curiosity might get the better of me!

Otherwise - the Wee Hobbit is coming along quite nicely - and her cola and outer buds have filled in nicely. Nothing like some of the grows I've seen in journals, here - but I'm quite happy with the progress to date - as my first grow didn't have a very happy ending - ha ha!
I really do believe those LED spots are having a beneficial effect on the bud production and "fullness", for lack of a better word!

DAY 56

IMG_9263.jpgIMG_9284.jpg

I applied 90 degree LST to the Bubblegum - and twisted her about 40 degrees to expose the sprouting points of what will become the lowest shoots. She responded well, and within an hour of the LST - she had turned her head back towards the light. Such resiliency - these plants do amaze me!
When her leaves are brushed, she exudes a deliciously citrusy smell.
I believe I'll need the carbon scrubber when she grows up!

DAY 15

IMG_9278.jpgIMG_9280.jpgIMG_9281.jpg

Thanks for checking in!

It appears I'm into the final lap with the Wee Hobbit.
The pistils are beginning to turn orange - though neither the fan leaves, nor the sugar leaves have begun to turn yellow and drained out.

Does this happen in all instances?

I've ad a good look at the trichomes - but through my 30x jeweler's loop, its difficult to tell whether they are clear or cloudy. I believe they are virtually all clear - but as I don't have an experienced eye - nor much magnification - it really is hard to be sure. I would hazard to say with some certainty that none of them have ambered, though.

I have a 420 60x-100x microscope coming (ebay purchase) - but I'm not sure it will arrive in time.

I really am pleased with how the buds have developed, though. They won't be anyone's BOM nom - but they have certainly fattened and frosted in the last week and a half - and are very, very firm (pretty near incompressible). I've really enjoyed watching the progress!

On to the photos (sorry about the yellow lighting - its the 2800K T5 bulbs):

DAY 66

IMG_9326.jpgIMG_9327.jpgIMG_9332.jpgIMG_9335.jpgIMG_9336.jpgIMG_9337.jpgIMG_9348.jpgIMG_9330.jpg

The largest fan leaves are looking a little worse for wear. I diagnosed as a cal/mag deficiency (would you learned agree?) - and have been adding General Organics Ca/Mg+ to each watering - and a teaspoon of molasses in the last watering. I also tried a foliar feed of the Ca/Mg+ just before lights out, a few days ago - but it didn't make any difference.

Should I be more aggressive in my treatment - or just keep calm and grow on? If they continue to deteriorate - will it be very harmful this far into it?

IMG_9340.jpgIMG_9341.jpg

The Nivana Bubbleicious is soldiering on nicely. It appears she may be another wee one - but I gave her a feeding of high P guano tea, two days ago - and she began to stretch nicely! I'm not sure if it was just her time to put on a growth spurt, or if the tea kicked her into gear - but she is firing pistils and sending up her bud sites (which I've been diligently pegging down and twisting to maximize their light exposure).

DAY 25

IMG_9314.jpgIMG_9317.jpgIMG_9325.jpg

As things are winding down with the Wee Hobbit - I popped a Sweet Seeds Black Cream which is sharing a T5 with the Bubbleicious, for the time being. She is two days above ground, but hasn't quite shed her seed pod completely. She is a vigorous one, though - and I have no doubt she'll break out of it shortly. Check out her stem coloration, though - she is showing her genetics already!

DAY 2

Got some rep to throw at ya, lookin good in here.... did I change the name of the right thread?

Looking great bro those are some nice buds :Cushty:

Thank you, Gentlemen - I appreciate your words of encouragement very much.

Thank you, GoAuto6 - both for the thread name change - and the "AFN Assimilated" rank! I went to bed last night as a rank and file mucker - and woke up a decorated member - ha ha!

I'll try not to let it go to my head - but you know what they say about power corrupting!
