I am looking for info from fellow enthusiast who have used Happy Frog soil. I would like to hear their experience using it straight out of the bag or if they amended it with other things i.e. Perlite or other things.

May experience is that it seems rather hot. On my first grow I had very dark leaves. The girls grew very nice but very very dark green. About the 15 day make the dreaded "claw" set in telling me nitrogen toxicity. On my new grow I have changed to a Mar Hydro LED from CFL's . I again used the Happy Frog and not learning my lesson I used straight Happy Frog again and around day 12 I had a couple leaves(lowest fan leaves) start to turn yellow and then by day 17 the claw set in with them as well. I have given them nothing nute wise to this point.

I also have 2 new girls that are in 50/50 Happy Frog and Perlite. They are 5 days old. I am looking to pin point if I have a soil issue or if I need to look elsewhere at the cause for the problem.

I used to use it and liked it very much. I never found it hot, nor did I mix it with anything. My problems with it was getting fungus gnats several times. I always had good grows, it was just the insects that made me look elsewhere. I've heard the quality is different from different facilities that make it.

I used it also. Fox farm soils have had a lot of issues in the last few years. I also started seeing gnats and also lots of rocks in it, so I went elsewhere. Now I use Kelloggs organic and I love it and can get it every where around here. Peace...

Ive used happy frog quite a few times but never liked it to much. It always seemed hot to me and ive always had gnats. I've used biobizz light cut 50/50 with regular roots organic and have the best results I've had so far! I've used just roots organic with 10% perlite and had good results but it was a little hot.

I guess im one of the few people who funguns gnats have never seemed to bother lol. granted I don't ask for them in my greenhouse but being outdoors sometimes its kind of inevitable. now personally my hydro store always has a freshly rotating stock of ff soils so none of them ever sit around long that may also be why I haven't seen an overwhelming amount of gnats as opposed to any other soil. ive never seen ffof or happy frog burn any of my plants but I don't feed them until about week 3 ever itsl always just straight water. in my opinion take 50 percent happy frog 50 percent ffof and that is the go to bagged mix.
