This is killin me. I harvesed my first northern lights plant. I let the few buds i got off it dry in a shoebox for about 5 days, then put them in a jar for about a day now. Problem is...its not potent at all. i read that northern lights was awesome, this barely gets me high.. WHAT DID I DO WRONG? will it get its potency after its dried more? it also smells like hay. So dissapointed.

i think the hay smell comes from jarring to early but it clears up as some strains cure. Maybe you chopped early? what do your trichomes and hairs look like?

Do you have a grow to link them to, I would like to see how they grew before I comment on why they aren't potent. As for the "hay" smell you are referring to, that is normally from letting them dry too long. Do you have a hygrometer in the jars by any chance? If so, what is your RH in them? Optimal would be ~65%RH. There again, if the trichs weren't ready for harvest it could have been that the terps hadn't had time to develop properly either which could be the reason for the hay smell.

Didnt look at the trichomes..i posted the pics on here and people said they were ready because the leaves had turned purple. Is it possible i harvested them too late? The buds looked kinda dried and sunk in when i harvested. The buds smelled great while growing..but didnt have much smell when harvested.

Leaf's turned yellow when the plant is ready . low temp's can cause purple leaf's . Don't worry about the smell, do correctly the dryin/cure process and it will be fine. Take care of your buds men :P

Look at GA6's links he posted about harvesting. There are many that will disagree with me but I don't like to let my trichs go amber. I am of the school that if they go amber it is way too late. So, in my personal opinion, the ONLY way to tell when to harvest is to look at trichs. When they go milky, I chop. No matter length of grow. There are some that will say that "some" auto trichs will not get milky. To that, I can't speak because I don't have enough experience with autos but I will say, I haven't had one that didn't get milky with me. Once again, in my personal opinion, if they are amber then the THC has degraded. Like I said, that isn't popular here but it is what I believe.

So, to answer your question, is it possible you harvested too late? Absolutely. I don't harvest from the looks of the leaves. If you are going for yield, that may be a good sign, but not for quality.

Depends on what type of effect do you wanna have . More Milky trichs cause head high and energetic/euphoria mood . More amber is more stoned, couchlocked. But in some autoflower trichs doesn't turn amber.

Not to hijack thread but thinking it would be good to maybe start a thread of what autos ppl no first hand if they amber or not.... Top of the list:
All the dragons I've grown go amber.
