Hey dudes, new to the forums but this, save the outdoor forum, will be my one of my frequent haunts. Anyone ever experiment with adding additional myrcene/alpha-pinene back into the hash? I have adopted this with my ethanol extractions (I mix the RSO with the EJ Mix product for use in vape pens, I typically add a few drops of myrcene into a full tank). I find the addition of these terpenes GREATLY alter the affect of the high. Enhanced couchlock, an enhancement of the "munchie/blood sugar drop", increased occular pressure on the come up and generally, a longer duration high with a less clean comedown. Every when applied directly to a bowl, or a few drop on ground flowers before rolled into a blunt, there is a definite difference between a given sample of canna vs said sample with additional terpenes (myrcene, at least).

Any thoughts/experiences?

I'm not well versed in myrcene but I do know of it's synergetic effect on THC. That's pretty interesting. I can envision a world where Monsanto and big Pharma own cananbis and inject Myrcene into their meds to make it stronger as an active ingredient. Now THAT is scary. :yoinks:

On a personal level though that's a pretty cool idea. Don't see an issue as it's natural anyway.

have also wondered and recently heard of concentrates that have 5% limonene added to it for flavor I believe.

the limonene is a potentiator, we have added this and linalool to our experiments . also, I briefly remember reading about resin extractions done in pure limonene somewhere, one sec:

long ass video, gets a little ive been here before if you are familar with extraction teks. good ideas here nonetheless, and good to see someone persuing this particular form of extraction

Alright, I've done a more replicable experiment concerning this:

We applied a tincture of ethanol and various terpenes to a 1 gram sample of water cured flowers, and allowed it to dry over 24 hours, to test a difference in the subjective effects of each. Some takeaways:

A complete absence of terpene provided a flat experience, and was so ineffectual compared to terpinated samples that it seemed to be at a distinctly lower thc level.

All terpene effects seemed to be enhanced by the presence of the base "pot funk" (that thiol thing that contributes to the base skunk smell).

Myrcene seems to be the next most global synergist.

Some terpenes don't seem to play well with others. Limonene and linalool, for example, were a less pleasant experience than either linalool alone (sedating) or limonene alone (energetic but stoning).

Inversely, some work very well synergistically
(Myrcene, b pinene and limonene are a strongly uplifting, reverberating stone).

Some are more concentrated than others. Myrcene requires a light application, but you can apply limonene very liberally.

There is something to the thiol responsible for the skunk funk. Remember folks were crazy about RSK, a strain notable for its novel and prolific expression of this aroma. Most hardcore gear I've smoked has this in the background, it's why you can smell when someone has been smoking when you walk in a room (you can smell the floral and fruit notes too, but they don't persist that long).
