Having some issues with my organic soil grow. To troubleshoot I want to check ph of soil run off. Any ideas how to do this with autopots? Can I just lift pot out and try to catch enough water? Top water through the pot? I thought of doing this but I add in dry amendments to the soil top and figured this might give false readings.

I dont grow in soil but in coco if I get lockouts in my autopots I turn the res off and lift the pot over a bucket and top feed to catch the runoff and test it that way but that's all I can help you with

Buying a soil ph probe will solve the problem.. It's something growers should have around.. Just like a ph pen for liquids..

I can see the soil probe being useful especially for Autopots. That is if you can find an accurate soil probe. Due to the Capillary feed, slurry sample would need to be pulled from a little deeper in the Autopot which can damage roots.

A slurry test will probably give you better info.

grab some soil and mix with known ph water and test slurry? Soil ph will be double the difference. Water ph 7. slurry 6.8 so soil is 6.4. ? Do you do equal weight water to soil then?

Hi, and good luck with the grow. I suggest that you fill in the infirmary form and see what the experts here think you are dealing with. Doing a runoff test in an organic grow may not be the best plan until you get some help on what exactly is going on.

I use the 50/50 method that the guys with NFTG and OCG use. OCGFAM has the most detailed and varied discussions I’ve found on the subject. I’ve included a couple of links below. First is a very simple instructional. The next link is an OCGFAM search on the subject.

Posting in the infirmary is a good idea. Many times “what’s going on” is soil pH related and should be one of the first things you need to know though.

Thanks. I did get some opinions from my few places including the infermary. I got some mixed thoughts. But since I am not home and havn’t checked ph then it should be a good place to start and I can at least let the experts know more info. I also got a buddy to foiler spray cal mag so if that was the issue it should be resolved by the time I get home.

Good video. I can give that a go. Between testing the slurry of the top and what drains out the bottom I think I can get an idea of what’s happening. How to fix it will be the experts opinion. Lol. My guess is I have too many dry amendments and EWC on the top to get a good gauge of the root area ph but if it’s similar to the run off I should be good.
