Lighting Heat vs COB?

also I had a thought about this...even though it seems a bit of a waste to run an efficient light then make up for the heat with an additional heater...but i worked out that it might mean you need a heater but it means you can really fine tune the conditions of the space...so yes it may seem counter productive but at the same time it will allow for much much better control of the space so thats where the benefit is...

There are basically 3 different types of heat from light, convection, conduction and thermal radiation. Every bit of energy is converted into one of these forms of heat one way or another. The law of conservation of energy fits well as energy cannot be created nor destroyed.

What this means and the references you hear about less heat is really about less convected or conductive heat. While mars hydro has less thermal radiation it is higher in the other categories. Cobs have much higher thermal radiation but still give off heat. Where the benefit is between cobs and mars is cobs convert more energy to light per watt, while still giving off heat. Mars gives off less light per watt while giving off a different type of heat.

In the end a watt of energy is equal to 4.31 btu's of heat no matter what type of light source it is. It's down to how much light you get per watt of energy.

Good to see this point made, there seem to be some misconceptions about what heat, light, wattage, photons, radiation and elektromagnetisme is and how they're just different expressions of....... The same.....

The reference to heat is correct from the past when we spoke. Light is heat and we can't do anything about that but efficient lighting has less "bad" heat. When I speak of 20% efficient lights they have 80% bad heat. I'm sure there is a better way to explain this lol

Thaht should be a thread. Heat in your grow room/grow tent! And how to control it and Esp. what light makes the least amount vs. the most. And how to get a finer control over any type of heat in the grow tent. That is without a doubt my biggest problem in my tent is the damned heat! In the winter its great but my wintertime is short so I really need less heat. Would be an awesome thread if anybody on here knew precisely what they were talking about in regards to temp control more or less. That would be a huge help and I'm sure most growers would agree.
