Grow Mediums Help me mix my DWC nutes please!!

Most of the guidelines people use are based around EC/PPM. For example the most common starting point is 0.8EC for seedlings. But after that point, like Skatter said, it's all about reading the plant and its needs so you know when to up the feed and vice versa. For a perfect completely unhindered grow on average you would increase EC by 0.2 each week but all plants have a preference you'll just have to watch her closely. It's tricky at first and remains tricky but I'm starting to get the hang of it now during my second attempt at DWC. I wish you the best of the luck and the best advice I can give you is to literally demolish the forum for all the info you could possibly need, read journals by Komach, DWCocha, Seymour Buds and myself (a good show of how to mess things up and recover) amongst others and you will feel a lot more confident. Its how I learned and I'm sure a lot of others too.

Its a RO filter ( reverse osmosis ) & fits to you kitchen or bathroom plumbing ,converts the tap water to 0-PPM... I think KUDO is saying he then fills a tank with that water & always has it on standby

Yeah I dont have room for all that in a stealth growbox bro. LOL. I think ill stick to the jugs of distilled water. Thanks for that though. Plus I looked they dont ship to US.

lol ,none of it goes in the tent bro & if you didn't want the tank you can just fill buckets or a few containers ect.

.You got a good nute line up & it should work fine .All good info so far too....read up & learn as much as you can if your after monster grows mate... follow a few essential steps & advice along the way & you'll do great :dance2ictures & details like Pals grows are great bud ,helps a lot for other growers to help you if you get me ?

Don't overfeed and keep an eye on your PH and you should have no problems and change your water weekly.

Thanks everyone who previously posted and commented. I have been reading and researching my ass off on AFN grow journals and more. I think Im starting to get a better mind set on DWC growing since earlier today. If all else fails, I will start doing soil grows since it is more forgiving and less tempermental. I dont wont to though cause im not a quitter so im going to give atleast one more try at it guys. I will def keep reading until I recieve my Apollo 6 Cidly 200 watt LED. After that its GROW TIME!!!!!! Come on TAX RETURN!!!!! LOL

Have you considered coco coir? The best of both worlds, and your hydro nutes wouldn't be going to waste. DWC can be a fickle beast unless you have a firm grasp of what's going on.

A brick of coco is only like $15. I highly reccomend coco. I love the stuff. It's a great way to get your feet wet in hydroponics. Grow in straight coco, or.cut it with petite if you want. Im even using coco instead of hydroton in my DWC net cups. You can use it outdoors. You can grow organically in it. The stuff is versatile as hell. Incredible substrate. Check it out

I highly recommend coco too! It was my training ground for RDWC. Simple and forgiving as soil, but the performance of hydro (once dialed in)

BUT... I would STRONGLY recommend NOT buying a brick like SkatterBrayne suggested. You can get in trouble real quick as there are lots of different types of coco (washed, unwashed, with trichoderma, without, pH buffered or not, cationic charged or not etc etc)

Can't go wrong with pre-bwashed-buffered-myco activated and PK charged Canna Coco or Plagron or Biobizz... a 50L bag will set you back the same 15 coins.

My only issue with the bricks is that the coco is more grainular in nature than the bagged stuff. Cut it with some perliteor rice hulls if you are worried about airation. I have grown in 100% coco and pulled just shy of a pound from my 600w MH. Now I use perlite to allow me more frequent waterings for even better growth.

I am the minority, but I personally avoid the bagged stuff. Alot of times it can come with critters in it, and larvae which cannot survive the dry compression process of bricks. Huge turnoff for me.

Coco has come a long way in recent years,and the issue of toxic salty coco is a thing of the past IMO. Why wouldn't you trust brands like botanicare or general hydroponics? I have had zero issues with their 5 KG bricks. It's so cheap, and easily shipped. I've got a stockpile of the stuff waiting be used outdoors, and never have to worry about it being contaminated. Hundreds of gallons of medium can fit in a small Rubbermaid container. I bought a few bricks, and since I reuse my coco I will never have to purchase growing medium again.

Rinse the dust out, with a calmag solution, and immaculate it with your own bennies and you are good to go. I have never understood why so many people are reluctant to rinse their coco... I mean you have to take.care of your plants for 3 months. Is 30 minutes of prepwork really that much of a turnoff? It ist nearly as much of a hassle as dealing with hydroton....You should have cal mag on hand regardless, as well as your own tricoderma and bacillus. Maybe I'm just a control freak, but I feel more comfortable preparing the medium myself as opposed to payingextra and not knowing their exact ratios and process

Im genuinely curious. Im wondering if most of the 'anti compressed coir stigma is just one of those myths that takes on a mind of its own, being repeated as fact. From my experience, I don't ever intend on buying pre bagged again. Yet everything I read says to avoid it like the plague :dunno:

You completely mistaken (IMHO), though I do get your point.

Sometimes people confuse springtails with nasty bugs, when in essence they are one of the best things for your roots. How can you advise running bennies to someone who is just starting out and wont know what the heck that is to start with? He's tinkering with hydro and you want to take him to level 2 straight off?

Because I am a geek and read too much, first time using Canna coco, I washed it and the result was I almost killed my seedlings. I washed away the trichoderma wich is symbiotic with roots and prevents pythium. So if you dont run bennies that will hit ''ya real quick in coco. For someone who never used coco & is starting, they wont know about cal mag CEC issue either, so that is why buying from a good source is always good. Grow a crop, smoke out, learn and evolve, THEN YES by all mean rinse and repeat.

There is coco with trichoderma, and then there is coco with fungicides. Buy the latter and you'll loose 50% yield. Of course�you can cut a few corners, like for instance, knowing how to reuse coco will save you big time in the long run.

But a suggestion for a newbie at this... Go with what is known to work out the bag (and is not marketing hype).

Hempy buckets are also a viable way to get your feet wet into hydro. Similar to DWC because there is a small reservoir at the bottom of the pot, but way less constantly labor intensive.

hey buds :Sharing One:I know your all giving Casper a heads up on DWC being hard work ,but hes decided to give it another shot & I know some of you grow DWC too...so maybe we could all offer our skills & opinions on that instead of talking about all the alternatives ?
Could always start a "good v bad coco" thread in the coco section ?
