The 250w bulb will not work with a higher powered ballast. The bulb will blow.
Even with adjustable ballast you need the correct bulb...

Hello Dodo.. Welcome to AFN! The ballast wattage and bulb wattage should match. If temps get to high you may need to add an extraction fan to pull the hot air out.

Thank you for your great answers, i think buy new 400 HPS will be better

Chum 400w regardles of ballast or globe will perform similar in heat or light output.

You can't run 250w globe with 400w ballast or vice versa.

Either control the heat or move to more efficient COB led lights

in this moment it cots for me , im going to contiune with 400w ballast + 400 hps

keep the 400 watt, but you must put fans in the room to keep the heat down. The best is an extraction fan, but any fan helps. HPS light use a lot of power, you may want to think about saving for a LED light if you cannot keep the temperature down.
