Idk from what I read would it be more efficient to run more cobs lower watts? When I get more funds down the line I'll add a few more cobs and another driver, so my question is if I'm not concerned about watts but more about efficiency would that make it easier to give me a better answer?

I mean what wattage do you want overall, for the whole thing. You'd choose your driver based on that

I would like to get 250-300watts

First you must decide what PPFD you want then you buy COBs and drivers.

I just saw a post that a guy with the exact same setup using the hlg 320-1400 his grow looks good so I might just go with that it's for a 3×3 area for now

Are you in a 4x4? If so That would work but I'd consider 2 smaller drivers over one larger driver. You could also make 2 frames vs just one too.

I made one frame but went with 2 cob drivers on this one. I wouldn't do it any other way.

I was kinda hoping that you would reply bigsmo. What size drivers would you recommend? I might just get a 4×4and do like you suggested and build 2 frames

Happy to help.
Hlg-120h-c1400 would run 3 cobs at 50w each.
For series wiring. More expensive but the easiest install and safest for the cobs.

Hlg-185h-48a would run 3 cobs at 52w each
For paralell wiring. Less expensive option, this would also require a little more wiring which is not a big deal unless your OCD. Also the chance of thermal runaway. If one cob fails the others take the power load.

I actually have both drivers going myself and not had any issues. 3 cob bars are very nice and easy to install, move and adjust. That pic above is a royal pain in the rear. It weighs close to 50lbs.
