I once tried to experiment with a plant. I wanted to see how low I could take the plant lower in pH until it started to show illness. I kept lowering the pH with vinigar in water every day. When the pH dropped down to 5.5 the plant lost all its purpleness in the stems. I continued until the plant was lowered to 3.7. The plant never showed any symptons of illness it just florished and yielded well. I am just mentioning this because when my plants show purple stems I lower the pH. Pot plants just seem to like it on the acid side. A friend once told me that purple stems are a sign of phosphorous deficience. I don't know if that is true.
