Hey guys.

I've purchased an expensive seed, when i first got it. I placed it in a cup of sterile water for 48 hours, but it showed no germination (tap root was not visible), then i placed it in high quality soil, and watered it down nicely. I live in a very hot climate, so i watered again on the 3rd day with 750ml of water (the pot is very large).

I waited 5 days, and no germination. So i dug the seed up, and saw that NOTHING happened, no germination, no tap root. Nothing. What i did notice was that the seed had gone slightly darker in color, (the center was dark).

The seed tip looks like its tried to push out a tap root, (slightly white in color at the end) but what interested me was the other side of the seed had a hole inside, and it was dark.

I'm not prepared to give up on this seed just yet. I've taken it out of the pot, and put it in-between 4 paper towels, moistened in water.

Can anybody please tell me what i did wrong? :( I didn't do anything wrong when germinating it. It sunk like normal, it just showed no tap-root.

I'm not giving up on it just yet. :(

Some seeds just take longer than others. When putting seeds into a cup of water they take a while to spit out a tap root i usualy soak it for 24-48 hrs then into paper towels for 2-3 days, then into the soil, then another 2-3 days to break out the soil. leave it in the paper towel till she has a nice tape root..Keep it wet and in a dark place im sure it will be fine :smokebuds:

I germinate seeds straight on the paper towel but if they are older than 2 years then I pre-soak them in water for a while. Some seeds just don't pop and you cant do anything about that..
I have seen that some seeds also show a bit of white stuff at one end but do not pop and when I tried to examine it closer I saw that the seed was fragile and I think it was rotting from too much moisture. That white stuff was not a tap root but just something coming out that should not be there..
Anyway that was my experience I hope you will manage to germinate your!

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

I'm going to leave her in the paper towl for 2-5 days. If i don't see a tap-root. I'm going to just throw it out.

carefully crack it between your thumbnails or teeth , then place it in your soil or paper towel

some seeds have a thick shell that doesnt want to crack on its own and some seeds werent given time to harden so they are soft and kinda stretch when the seedling tries to make it crack

most undamaged and mature seeds will germ , some just need a bit of help
