Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has used one of these before? If so, how is it?

Hot Spot Diffuser (Equalizer) 1000W HPS

With the hot spot diffused, you can hang reflectors closer to the plant canopy while reducing the risk of burning the plants directly under the lamp. Simply slide this unique product over a mugul base socket on most horizontal burning reflectors to filter & disperse the intense "hot spot" of light directly under an HID lamp.

The revolutionary shape, size and hole patterns were designed using the latest lighting development software.

The Equalizer™ will aid in improving the uniformity of your fixture by reducing the hot spot below the lamp.

Here is a link to the info for it.

Thanks guys for any info since I am running a 1000w and if this does work it could make life that much easier. :toke:

I have used a super spreader and it does disperse the light, but I am not convinced so much about hanging the light a whole lot closer to the plants, there is still quite a bit of heat and I am using a 400Whps

I do have a cool tube already in use, the heat isnt too bad off of it maybe 95F a few inches away, I currently hang my light 36inches away for light dispersion but if this could do a better job I could hang it alittle closer without the 'hot spots'.

I mean considering what it is, its fairly expensive. I have seen a couple DIY one's but im not extremely 'handy'. haha

I might just make the purchase and see, I mean it is selling on reputable sites which means it cant be a total crock of sh*t.

I use an aircooled fixture, with a 6 inch fan pulling at 435 CFM. I have my 400 watt hps about 6" over the plants. And really don't notice any problems with hot spots. I can't really lower the light anymore, without starving the plants on the edge of my 32"X32"X72" tent. I really don't see how this product could help me. But I am open to listening if someone could tell me how it could help my grow.

Have a great weekend.

Looks like it reduces heat by throwing light that your plants need back at your bulb, which I would think could hurt it's life expectancy.

and if you need to be 3 ft above your plants for dispersion then it seems like you have either too many plants under one bulb, or you're in a really big space (if heat is an issue then, id have to assume you're not in a huge space with a lot of open air).

In my opinion those heat diffusers are ballyhoo.

I'm running a 600w myself through a cooltube with a 440 cfm fan and I can put it right on top of my plants without heat being a real issue (in a pretty warm attic).

can't see how much that thing costs after shipping, but about $100 will get you a 750cfm mtn gearsmith inline which would cool that thing down way more then any diffuser, and give you head room to cool a second light if you ever decided to daisy chain another cooltube on there if you can swing the extra 50 or so bucks.

I just recently got one of their fans and the fan itself is silent. Just sounds like wind. and cooled the shit out of my attic spot that was getting up to 95 deg under just a 400w before. I'm not pulling air in outside with the fan, through the cool tube, and it just exhausts right in the grow room as fresh air and could easily chain another 600w cooltube in line with it and still not have to worry about temps.

just my 2 cents.
