How many plants for seed run?

I want to make auto seeds outdoor for the years to come, this summer.

The plan is to keep them in pots to do a controlled open pollination.
As I understand it, if I just plant them all in a single bed and let mother nature do the job, it will be the earliest male that gets to pollinate all the females?

Is it enough to use a 10-pack, or should I use a 20-pack to be sure to preserve genetic diversity?
No fein smecker breeding stuff.. just want an abundance of outdoor seeds for the forseeable future..

Just ballpark, how many seeds can you expect when pollinating, say, a side branch of a typical 30g auto?
How many seeds can you expect if you pollinate the whole plant?

I would say anywhere from 100 to 200+ seeds from one lower branch pollenated carefully without pollenating other parts of a plant. If you let a patch of plants pollenate on their own, you will have more seeds than you could use in multiple lifetimes. So will your neighbours if they are growing. They may not be happy about that.

I recommend a controlled approach where you choose exactly what you are crossing. Grow your male(s) well isolated from your females, collect your pollen, and apply it selectively to the mothers you want to use. If you keep your "crosses" within strains you really like, you will have seeds that you know something about before you grow them. Crosses between strains will be more of a crap shoot. Having thousands of seeds that you don't know what to expect from may not be that useful an outcome.
