Lighting How many plants?

Do you have space for bigger plants? Really anyone's growing style should should be tailored to their own wants/needs. For @BigSm0 BIG pots of Promix works best for him. I prefer smaller pots, fed more often. 100% Coco. It works best for me. That is what matters most. That being said, try Coco. You too Big! Ha
Kind of. Lol. I have a 2x4x5 tent and a 2x2x4 tent. The last year has been 3-4 plants in 2-3 gal pots.. But my yield is about an 40g per plant on average. I see you guys going alot more with what seems like a lot less. Lol.. I want to start growing 2-3 plants that pull 2 ounces each on average. Thats what I am working towards! I may to a plant or two in coco my next run for practice! Thanks for the encouragement!

Strain is most important factor. One of my Critical+2.0 would be too big for either of your tents! However, you can rock 4 Sour Cracks in your 2x2 and 6-8 in your 2x4. You can yield 1.5-2.0 oz each. PM me for details if you ever do Coco.

I admit, I didn't read every response, but I'm answering the first couple things I saw.

I was just going to post a very similar question/thread. Also have 4 autocobs myself. But I also have 2x600 watt HPS lamps that I run down the middle of the tent and the autocobs are hanging to the outside of the HPS lights. And an 8x8 tent. And I'm growing in autopots with airdomes and coco and good auto genetics that would be too much to list off. I like variety.

I thought I was going to limit my grow to 4 plants at a time and the 4 autocobs was perfect. But now that I'm getting in to this I would like to bump up to 6 plants. I have 4 autopots now and was doing the math on adding 2 more plus air domes and another reservoir. And then the math on 2 more autocobs so I would have 1 per plant. I can't swing it all right now. It would cost a good $1K.

Could I expect good results with 6 plants under 4 autocobs along with 2x600 watt HPS lamps? And what I love about the autocobs is they are easy to move and hover over any plant I want depending on the day/situation so that could buy me some ability to handle a bigger garden than normal.

I also have an 8 bulb T5HO fixture I like to hang over a couple of seedlings to start things off. So that helps a bit too.

That is just way too much light. You are gonna be killing your air conditioner. Good thing it's winter time. I had to remove my plants from my first tent because they were growing into the lights. That was with ONE plant in a 2x3x5 tent and ONE 250 watt HPS. I took the tent out of the closet and turned it into a proper grow space. I filled it (3x4) on the first try with one plant and two 200 watt blurple led's. Third go around, I have a whole new room now, with one 600 watt HPS, and one 200 watt HPS. It is more than enough to cover the 4x6 space. When they get big, I may need to add some support lights on the outsides of the 200 watt light. Other than that though, it's a waste of power and money. The plant has light saturation point, where you can add as much as you want and the plant will not take it up.

Pmax = Maximun Photosynthesis potential. The green lines going up straight represent sunlight. As you can see plants evolved to take only what they need, the rest is not absorbed and passes through the plant or is reflected. This also causes excess leaf temperatures, leading to problems.

6 plants under 1200w of hps will be fine... honestly, 1200w of hps and 200 with of cobs should be overkill. 1600w for a 4x4 tent is what would be used for photos (50w per Sq ft), you can get by with less with autos, a good question for a more experienced auto grower.

So the question really should be how many Sq ft will 4 cobs cover? # of plants is relative.

Yes, the real question is coverage and penetration. So if you grow in hydro? 1 gallon pots, or ten gallon pots? The answer is the same, as many as will fit in the space at maturity. without crowding each other too much, or shading each other. Light coverage is less about wattage and more about coverage.

The only benefit I can think of for multiple lights per plant is getting that light from multiple angles. Especially with LED's which naturally have less penetration.

Thanks for the info on the lights. I have not read about those topics before.

I can always turn lights off though. Better to have too much than not enough! I like that I have options. And a large space. Again, better to have too much than not enough.

Dude when you want to start growing in coco hit me up on the PMs, I got a few pointers for good cheap nutes and best practices.. if i can ensure you have a good coco grow and convert you to our side.. by god i will do it!

Are we talking about nutes for hand water top feeding only? Or something that can be in a reservoir and hydroponic lines without clogging?

I tried to use a reflector on one cob and it instantly curled the leaves. I later took it off.
My reflectors are off as well. You are right, plants do let you know pretty quickly when they don't like something cob related. My last run was mostly reflectors and they seem to get pretty damn intense.
