I'm a first time grower and need some lighting advice. My tent is 36x20 inches and 5 feet tall. It came with a 300w LED but I immediately upgraded to a 600w viparspectra. I've got enough room to hang both but I'm wondering if that's "too much"? What do you think about 900w of led in such a small space.

The actual is a lot less, maybe 300w, which is about right. You could run the 600w in veg and the 300w fired up for flower. Or the other way round. Play with it and see. With both running I would think it would get hot.

Sent from my comfy chair.

Agree with Rollin_along, in fact you should have two equal tents
Run the 600w in one tent and the 300w in the other, when they both bloom exchange the lamps, then see who give better yield

Thanks for your input (tangent). But back to my question lol.... Is 900w led total (yes I know it actually only draws around 500) too much for my 36x20 inch by 5foot grow space.

It's a lot for sure. More than 150w per sq/ft is already pushing unless the led lights aren't quality. I would run the 300 w to start and then bring in the 600 later. The light won't exactly be balanced, but you can shift the plants around every week or so.

I think one draw power 210--300W light is enough for you

My first grow was with a ViparSpecta 450 in a 2x2.5x5 tent and it worked great. Make sure you use adjustable hangers and you’ll be fine. My light had separate veg and flower switches. While your current light will suffice for you now be sure to save up for an upgrade to a more powerful light. I went to a Timber Grow Lught 4 COB (Citizen 1212) and I also have bought four AutoCOB lights from @BigSm0, which you can buy those one at a time. Anywho, good luck with your maiden voyage!

Of the “900” watts (400) wall watts you are giving off around 75 par watts based on 20% efficient Epistar leds. For autos it’s a bit on the high side. The 600 alone should be enough especially being a first grow. The extra light sounds good but it can cause more trouble than it’s worth. When you get the hang of growing adding the 300 may help.

I will not grow with less than 33 true watts per square ft. I have a 2x4 tent and run 2 600 watt meizhi leds 270 true watts a piece. That's a bit much but I purchased them to go in a 5x5 along with another pair of them. Still working on 5x5

Aim for between 30-50 actual watts per sq foot.I like to be a little “overpowered” at 50-60 watts sq/ft and hang the lights a bit higher.I think it makes for happier plants.
