Live Stoner Chat How Much Smell ?

Hello !

Yes, I know the question is too generic, so here are the variables to make it a bit specific ..

Climate: Temp between 20 to 30 Celsius ( 68 to 86 F ) , Dry , calm to mild winds, nothing fancy !
Grow : Outdoors
Standard light cycles here .. 12 hr day 12 hr night ..just change of 2 hrs of change in winter.

The question ! ( And my panic factor ! )

For a single plant white widow auto out door grow, with say LST go get around 6 to 8 tops,

1) When would the plant start smelling heavily ?

2) How much and how far would the smell go? .. say approx feet .. meters, whatever general guidance based on your experience that you could share ..

Please give me some general idea of the smell it will produce with above condition ..

Just want to cover all my bases first before I do my first grow .. dont want to get caught because of smell .. for rest of things are doable for this outdoors stealth grow eg. the plant will be out of sight, camouflaged by shrubs around it etc. Smell is the only thing that can give it away it seems !

Strength of smell is dependent on genetics and pheno types.. You might have a pheno with low smell.. You might have a pure gas stinker. The smell of a single plant shouldnt travel too far. If you are concerned with it, plant some nice smelling flowers or fuits near by it to mask smells. Lavander is good for that.

it's indeed really dependent on the plant.
but generally, it only starts getting really worse second half of flower.

during veg, most plants aren't really smelling much, unless you rub the stems. but some stinkers may already smell strongly in veg.

smell reaches a few metres I guess. within 1-2 metres of a plant in flower you smell it very clearly.

Smell can reach well beyond a few feet if you choose strains that are true stinkers....veer away form genetics that include Diesel and skunk genetics. I find those two really pack an odor, and their stink travels. I have had some stinker autos outdoor scent travel over 50 feet.

Yeah, have seen an unfiltered indoor grow noticeable over the whole block.... strain choice first, surrounding with floral sent second... not picking up the dog shit thru the summer might work as well...but I like hanging with my plants, so that's out!

I have two pineapple kush growing right now indoor week 9 and they have a powerful odor. I installed my carbon filters last week because my wife said she smelled it outside. My exhaust runs into a old no longer used chimney witch vents out the roof . I was putting on Christmas lights today and I could still smell it . I have about the cheapest ebay CFL I could get it probably need to spend some money on a quality one. I think outdoor can smell even stronger some times. Have a buddy that could sniff out a plant from 100s of yards away. I always like to put Moth balls around my outdoor plants it keeps animals from eating them but than you can smell Mother balls as soon as you get close. So yeah like others said it depends on bread and strain . Northern light seems not to smell super strong so maby try that or a cross breed. Most of the white widow strains I have grown have been pretty stinky.

I was going to say the same thing as tommyboy... Northern lights has a weak scent as far as cannabis goes. Also some of the purple strains have a really fruity smell that majority of people wouldn't recognize as weed unless they've spent time around live plants before. White widow might get kinda smelly on you, but like others have said just 1 plant can be easily mAsked by planting very fragrant flowers around it
