New guy to autos (and really to growing in general) in northern Colorado just popping in to say hello. In the process of remodeling an old closet in the back room of my house for growing. Have a couple of tries with photoperiod strains in versions 1.0 and 1.5 of the closet, but no real harvests to speak of yet. So revamping the lighting, ventilation, almost everything in the closet to give it another go. With only having the single grow space so only able to run a single light cycle for any and all plants I have going, I wanted to give autos a try for my maiden grow in the revamped space as I think they may help simplify things a bit. Primarily, I like the idea of being able to start new plants in the same space while current plants are finishing up with only the single light cycle to try and get a rotation going. Still waiting on some pieces/parts to complete the remodel, but I went ahead and placed an order with a seed bank for an assortment of auto strains that I'm hoping will show up around the same time the works all done. I may add a tent in another room some time down the road to play around with cultivating a photo period mother plant, but for now just want to get the closet dialed in and growing and give autos a try.

While I'm waiting for all the FedEx/UPS stuff to show up I figured I'd pop in and do a quick sign up, say hello, and thank the forum for all the great info I've found on here so far.

Hello and welcome! If ya need / want any help with gear setup, people are always happy to help around here. Good luck!! :)

Welcome Ozone,

I am also a closet grower. Autos are much easier as you say because of the light cycles. And they smoke just as good as any other canna plant.

Enjoy, eP.

Welcome to the club Ozone. This is a great group with tons of knowledge and experience, always willing to help out when needed. Good luck!

Sweet, sounds like a killer plan. Just be forwarned you might get hooked on Auto's and scrap your photoperiod plan!!!!

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm actually kind of hoping that I enjoy the autos enough that I scrap the photo mother plant idea. Still have a couple packs of photo seeds that I picked up from the store that I'll have to try at some point, though. My biggest hang up right now is that while regular, photoperiod seeds are starting to show up in the stores around here, I've still yet to find anyone in the state that's selling auto seeds. Granted, I can always try and do my own seed crops from time to time to maintain the personal supply. But it would be nice to be able to shop for new strains in the stores alongside the photos versus having to roll the dice with international mail order and customs. Someday...... :)

Here's a little peek at the space I'm working with:

The original closet:

"Version 1.0" Painted all white inside and added a dedicated power circuit:

My two most successful plants to date. Couple of "Ghost of Leeroy" seeds from Rare Dankness. In my noobishness, I destroyed them both when they turned out to be males.

Still waiting for a switch and collar for the ventilation on the remodel work. Lights showed up yesterday earlier than expected, so helped keep the excitement and anticipation levels high as I get closer to completing the work while waiting on stuff in transit. :jump:

Only one piece that I'm still waiting on, the filter for the ventilation. Everything else arrived and I've got it all installed wired up and ready to go. Going to run things for a day or two while waiting for the filter as a burn in test and to keep an eye on the temps in the closet. I'm really excited about how it turned out and can't wait to see how my plants do in the new setup. Been thinking up ideas, planning, throwing that idea out and coming up with something else for many months now. May not be the best setup on the planet, but I'm kind of proud of how it all came together.

So without further ado, I give you the closet version 2.0:

Changes made:
Pulled up carpet. Installed white tile floor with 4" tile back splash.
Installed 4" Soler & Palau TD-100XS inline fan. 97/101(HI/LOW) CFM (rated)
Phresh Filter 4"x8" filter (still in transit)
2x Holmes 8" oscillating desk/wall fans (may change these up...move a little more air than I anticipated)
4x T5HO 3' 39W single lamp fixtures. 1 in each corner for side lighting. Replaced 6K bulbs that they came with with 3K spectrum (though may change/mix this up some).
2x Platimum LED P150 150W LEDs

Outside (notice the new little vent in the upper right)

Ventilation and side lights:

Electrical:

Built in 20Amp, 24 hour digital timer. Side lights have an "off override" switch on their outlets (bottom in pic) so they can be switched off when not needed but are still on the timer when switch is in on position.

Overall space is about 2'Dx5'Wx7'H. Really hopeful that I'll be able to get much better results and fit more plants in than I could with the old setup and soooo excited to start trying out autos in the remodeled space. I'm going to try and journal the first grow, but historically I'm bad at keeping up with the frequent pics and documentation so will have to see how it goes.
