Lighting hps questions

I heard dinafem only goes up to 400 hps in its rooms why not 600 and what is a rule for height of light off plant

if you put your had over your plants and you can leave it there your good but if at any time its to hot for your hands its to hot for your girls..

From what I've read you get the most bang for your buck with 600w in terms of lumen output. I test with the hand under the light as if you were testing baby formula, if it's hot then it's too close. For 400w I keep a distance of about 12-24 inches from canopy, 24 inches for seedlings/clones.
